Report: PS4 to support voice commands, recognition with camera

The PlayStation 4 will support "navigational voice commands" and "facial recognition" through the PlayStation Camera, according to YouTube user lex1020's recording of a slide from Sony's presentation at GameStop Expo 2013.

At the GameStop Expo, SCEA's Group Manager of Retail Training and Advocacy Sean Coleman described the camera's ability to "track your body movements in games or even recognize your face for easier system navigation."

A Sony Computer Entertainment spokesperson confirmed with Polygon that the PlayStation Camera "allows for voice recognition" and that more details will be shared "in the lead up to the launch of the PlayStation 4."

slapshot101 On the bright side this is not something that is required and we have to buy it separately, so it won't always be spying on us. I think that the Xbox voice and video recognition will be better then the PS4 version from the past and what I have seen so far, with the Kinect seeing in the dark.

How childish and paranoid are you on a scale of 10? Why would Microsoft want to watch millions of sweaty teenagers...

I have connect right now, and I never use the voice controls.

Same, I really don't feel like using them aswell, I like to keep it simple.

Why do they have to incorporate all of these stupid gadgets? Why can't it just be simpler... I'm really not looking forward to the next-gen releases. They're going over the top.

I really don't care about who did it first, it has been implemented into the PS4 regardless. Voice commands and facial recognition where done far before the Xbox One's time, they simply took from that idea. Does that mean that the Xbox One copied Biometric security systems?
