Microsoft: Xbox One is worth $100 more than PlayStation 4

Xbox director says company is not stressing over being the most expensive console this holiday season; "I just believe that we're going to have a better system," says Albert Penello.

The Xbox One will be $100 more than the PlayStation 4 and $200 more than the Wii U this holiday season, but Microsoft is not stressing over its stance as the most expensive console.


"It’s up to us to prove that it’s worth $100 more. I think it is," senior director of product planning and management at Xbox Albert Penello told GameSpot today at PAX Prime in Seattle, Washington.

Penello said the suite of games and services Microsoft is offering with the Xbox One is stronger than the competition.

"I think we do more. I think our games are better. I think as people start to experience Kinect and see what it can do using voice, I think that’s better," he added. "I think the ability to have an all-in-one system where you can plug in the TV, that’s better. I think we’ll have a better online service."

"I just believe that we’re going to have a better system."

Ultimately, consumers want to buy the "best thing," Penello said. The Xbox One's stance as the most premium console this holiday season won't hold it back, he argued.

"$100, when you’re talking $400 vs. $500 [shrugs shoulders]. I don’t believe it’s going to be the deal-killer," he said.

The Xbox One launches in November for $500.

Most the people buying a console are young most likely being paid for by the parents. If you tell your parents I want a xbox one or ps4 they're most likely going to get the PS4 because it is a $100 cheaper, even if the xbox is worth the extra $100 it was a stupid decision for microsoft.

I was clearly talking to the xbox fans that are mad about the price and want to move to Sony. That's all.

Kurumu I am so freaking hyped for this console, my pre-order has been placed and I am ready. Also 100$ difference isn't that much. Also if you are poor or broke why would you waste 500 or 400 $ on a console when you can barely pay your bills?

I am buying my own and am paying for it myself. Like he said if you cant afford 500 compared to 400 then you are either to poor and should just not get one at all till you can or you are too young and your parents told you to save up and you end up only having 400 on release. Plus one game will cost 60 so now if you didn't have enough for Xbox then you will have a PlayStation with no games..... as I have said from day one if all you want is a basic game console and that is it buy the ps4 but if you want a entertainment console buy the x1. That is it.


To me the xbox one cost $560 at the min and if you are shipping it then you are paying even more!!

i think microsoft should have kept the DRM policies, noone moans about steam so they wouldnt moan about that. so if your saying the DRM policies were a bad thing i think you are wrong


No one moans about steam because steam doesn't have bs restrictions. Plus, you assume that it would've EXACTLY like steam. That's not the case. With drm on X1, you wouldn't even own the game that you paid $60+ on. Yeah that's real legit. There's a reason ms kept reversing its policies, because they knew no one would give the x1 a second look.


You realize it's the same way on Steam correct? I don't know if you have Steam but if you do then you should know that if you lose your account then you lose access to all your games. Which is exactly how it was going to be for the Xbox One. Xbox was also going to give us the ability to play the game with multiple accounts as long the original had given permission which is something Steam does not allow. I can understand you not liking DRM but at least know what Steam does before saying they don't. I along with many others love Steam and I would have no problem with DRM on consoles.
