PlayStation 4 will download remote purchases automatically

PlayStation 4 will download remote purchases made via smartphone or desktop PCs automatically, a Sony exec has confirmed.

Any purchase made remotely will awaken the PS4 from its sleep mode. The item will download, then the console will return to its sleep state.

The news comes via Sony president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida, who confirmed the functionality on Twitter.

"When you buy a PS4 game on smartphone, it will wake your PS4 up to start downloading the game. PS4 goes back to sleep after that," Yoshida Tweeted.

Similar functionality is in place for the PS3 and Vita, however items are only added to a download queue. A user is required to commence the download once they're using the console.

With the PS4, a game can be purchased, downloaded and installed remotely.

PS4 will release November 15 in the US and November 29 in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. PlayStation UK boss Fergal Gara said last week that the company is struggling to satisfy pre-orders, claiming that the PS4 is heading for a "sell-out situation".

Not really you have to turn on your xbox 360 and then you can shut it off manually after that


turn on background downloads in the xbox settings seetings and yes you can. this feature isnt new. its been done already by xbox


For **** sake can I go to the PlaySation news section once without seeing Xbox fan-boys comparing the Xbox one to PS4. Seriously it's getting annoying and it's really immature.


It's the exact same in the Xbox news section. There is no difference between the two.

PS4 features suspend mode/sleep which keeps the system in a low power state while preserving the game session.

It doesn't say that it turns the console on and off, there is a difference in the console being in sleep mode and off and you can choose whether or not to put it in sleep mode or turn off the console

Didn't mean to put that part in there twice but my point is that if you don't want "Sony" doing anything to your console like downloading a game for you then turn the console OFF
