Gamescom 2013: Vita price cut to $199 in US, €199 in Europe

4.7
Sony is looking to pump life back into the Vita by dropping the flagging portable's price to $199 in the US and €199 in Europe, down from its launch tag of $250/300. The company announced the cut at its Gamescom press conference, and it comes after the portable's drop in Japan to ¥19,980 (around $204) earlier this year. Sony Europe CEO Jim Ryan also noted that "signifiant reductions of the price of PS Vita memory cards in both regions" are coming.

Sony shifted 7 million Vitas and PSPs in the company's last fiscal year (April 2012-March 2013), and predicts that figure to drop to 5 million in the fiscal year ending March 2014. Sony must hope a price drop, along with the Vita's connectivity with PS4, will help boost the portable's sluggish sales.

Pitt Still not worth it!

I find that the PSVITA will be worth it when the PS4 comes out, remote play sounds really handy and i am hoping for them to release a solid line up of games in the near future

LuckyOtter Does anyone actually have this? Sony should stick to the console market since Nintendo pretty much dominates handhelds.

I had it, I sold it. It just lacked so much for me and the way it works did my head in.

I still my PSVITA which i purchased near the end of last year. The only reason i haven't sold it is because of the PS4

Pufferfish If this was included in a PS4 bundle, I think it would beat Xbox One by a long run.

In my eyes It already has mate, XBOX one looks like a waste of money to me..

You get a console, a kinect, a media device, a communications device and a game for $500 whereas with PS3 you get a lot less.

In my eyes Xbox has one the console war by a decent shot.

Its down to personal preference, and to be honest.. Kinect is a waste of moneyand the headset looks like it costs 5

True, however kinect isn't a waste of money.
You get a 1080p webcam with built in high quality mic for skype calls, plus it adds to games nicely at times.
