Microsoft has announced that every Xbox One pre-ordered in Europe will come bundled with a digital copy of FIFA 14 at no extra cost.

The deal, announced during the firm's Gamescom press briefing today, includes all console pre-orders from today and to date.

The FIFA 14 pack is described as "the first of these bundles", suggesting that a different game could be included in the promotion later on.

Microsoft has also announced FIFA 14 Ultimate Team Legends, which will be exclusive to Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Users will be able to craft their Ultimate Team with a mix of legendary players on the pitch alongside today's stars. Legends will offer access to classic players like Ruud Gullit, Dennis Bergkamp, Pelé, Patrick Vieira, Gary Lineker and Freddie Ljungberg.

The news follows an earlier CVG report in which sources indicated that Microsoft had secured a "major third-party title" to bundle with its next-gen console.

A source with knowledge of the deal, who wished to remain anonymous, told CVG that the developments were part of Microsoft's goal of adding value to its system without lowering its £429 release day price.

Striking a deal of this magnitude is thought to have cost Microsoft further millions in budget as it prepares to launch its next-generation Xbox around the world.

Sony has won favour among the games community for setting the PlayStation 4 price at $499 and £349 - which is $100 and £80 lower than the Xbox One launch RRP.

The software giant has previously claimed it will spend as much as $1 billion on games deals and R&D during the next generation. Already it has major partnerships lined up, such as the Microsoft-exclusive game Titanfall (PC, 360 and Xbox One) as well as timed-exclusive Battlefield 4 DLC.
