Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin announced at Microsoft's Gamescom showcase that Call of Duty: Ghosts will use the Xbox One cloud to host dedicated servers for multiplayer.

He also revealed that the game's new Blitz muliplayer mode will be playable here at Gamescom, and we should be going hands on soon.

Oasis So I'm guessing IW rent cloud space/time from MS to be able to do this. What happens when they decide to not spend money on it? Rent-a-server?

By the sounds of it they are working directly with ms using their current data centers and therefore they probably can reduce the cost quite considerably as well as ms most likely compensating too. The servers will be more popular in the future and not less as well as the future cost reduction with technology advances so i can't really see a time where COD would be in a situation where they would have to remove the dedi's tbh.

MON SO... if you are a dedicated call of duty player get the xbox one :)

Pretty much, Xbox has always been the better choice for games such as call of duty

I couldn't really see them doing something like rent a server, when they decide not to spend money on it they will either revert to the host system or just stop multiplayer servers all together i guess.

Does that mean no more host migration, or lag? That's great then!

ODST I'm confused as to why this must wait until the next-gen consoles. BF3 and other games have had dedicated servers for a while now on the current generation consoles, why is it that only the the next gen are getting dedicated servers on CoD?

Battlefield doesnt and its because the amount of people that play Cod is triple Battlefield and would be insanely expensive on current gen consoles

Something COD has needed for a LONG time.

So if that mans that we are going to get some hands on I think that means we should see a lot more gameplay coming in the near future and we can see this new game mode and maybe some new weapons.

Ted- I can't wait for this Dedicated servers are so damn good and make the game more balanced. No bs laggy deaths anymore.

yeah i know how you feel! i can sense that call of duty's popularity will rise because they fixed the lag

It's popularity is already way up there, yeah it gets hate, some for lag and BS deaths/kills but some people also give it hate because of them thinking it's the same thing again or they're just sick of CoD in general.
