Microsoft will absorb cost to add headset to Xbox One; no price change

4.5
Microsoft's unboxing video of the Xbox One Day One console package today also confirmed for the first time that the company has changed its mind and will indeed add a mono headset to both the Day One and standard editions of the console. Microsoft is currently taking pre-orders for the same headset as a stand alone product for $24.99, which is not an inconsiderable sum.

While Microsoft made no announcements today about a change in price for the Xbox One, we wanted to make sure so we contacted Xbox One's director of product planning Albert Penello via Twitter to find out if adding the headset would also increase the price of the console or if it will add to Microsoft's own manufacturing costs.

As you can see in the response Penello gave neowin, Microsoft will absorb the price of adding the headset and the $499.99 price tag for the Xbox One remains intact:

@JCalNeowin We're paying for that one. No change to the price.

FilmRiot Well yeah, were they seriously considering making it cost more for a little piece of crap headset?

They never said they were considering a price change, the person who wrote the article wanted to make sure there wasn't a price change.

Ya its like the 360s main headset 1 ear peace it sucks and pointless if you get the K with it......

Wish The Xbox One is more expensive than the PS4 already, Microsoft wouldn't want to upset their future customers by raising the price. This would also cause a big problem with preorders that have already been placed.

Yet they price games on Games on Demand and others on Xbox Gold that are almost as old as the console's initial release still at $20. If a game is over six years old, mark it at an appropriate price.

xboxfan7892 Looks like the headset controls might block where some peoples hands go anyone else agree?

After looking closer at it, yes. I have big hands and looking at the image and where my fingers are placed, yes the adapter does seem to be in the way

I-DA-KING Why would't they come with a headset? It dose't make any sence, Almost every game requires people to talk to go good in it

Because the Xbox One comes with a Kinect that can be used as a way to communicate with other people like a headset.

Not surprising. They can't just go and add extra to the cost of it now. Since the headset seems to be a pretty cheap one, there is no way they could get away with charging more anyway. It should have been included to being with. The Kinect is not a good substitute.
