Xbox One 12GB RAM upgrade debunked by Microsoft

4.7
Xbox One isn’t getting a RAM upgrade form 8GB to 12GB, Microsoft’s product planning manager Albert Penello has confirmed.

The rumours started after Penello took to NeoGAF to discuss the Xbox One’s specs last month. He wrote, “I would like to pose this question to the audience. There are several months until the consoles launch, and [as] any student of the industry will remember, specs change.

“Given the rumored specs for both systems, can anyone conceive of a circumstance or decision one platform holder could make, where despite the theoretical performance benchmarks of the components, the box that appears “weaker” could actually be more powerful?

“I believe the debate on this could give some light to why we don’t want to engage in a specification debate until both boxes are final and shipping.”

The rumours started to fly, but Penello has now debunked the whole lot on Twitter.

My computer has 8GB of RAM and it's pretty fast. This is fine with me.

-Retro 8 is perfect for gaming 12 is just overkill

No, it would be ready for the future! PCs commonly have 16GB of RAM available (Well gaming ones do!) It helps massively and can take stress off of the CPU and GPU, to an extent of course!

Sorry but your wrong, the average gaming PC has around 8gb of ram.. I would know myself from using a gaming PC with 8gb of ram.. You would more commonly see 16+gb of ram on a workstation PC.

Your current PC, these consoles are for the future and should implement the future hardware specs as best they can. RAM is extremely easy to upgrade and they could have installed more far later than the processor or graphics card.

Koruto If they did put 12GB ram on the Xbox One. It would totally have a big advantage over Playstation 4. And all those Sony fan-boys could go suck it.

Yea i would be a big advantage to all of the Microsoft users

Ram isn't the only thing needed in a console.. 8gb is plenty for the new consoles. I'd prefer they get a better CPU instead of that shitty one both consoles are using.

The thing is yes we would like a better CPU but they're very expensive, RAM is extremely cheap in comparison and im not convinced that with 3 os and multiple programs running that in a couple years the ram will not be running full capacity. Its acceptable but 12 would have been a nice extra.

JacobyEllsbury Microsoft say things like that to reel people in, get a short boost in sales, and then they say it's not happening.

Say what ? it was a rumour created by people and as soon as they got asked it was shot down. Learn the story you muppet. He never said anything about it being changed he just spoke generally about the hardware.
