Take-Two seeking control of GTAV.com domain name

4.4
Take-Two is seeking to gain control of the GTAV.com domain name, which is currently registered to a Spanish resident and listed as for sale.

Fusible reports that Take-Two has filed a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in a bid to take control of GTAV.com.

The domain name currently redirects users to the official Grand Theft Auto V website, although as recently as February 2013 it took users to a blog about the game.

This year alone, Take-Two has reportedly filed more than two dozen disputes over fake beta websites like gta5betacode.com, with the WIPO ruling in the publisher's favour on each occasion.

In July, Rockstar released a new GTA 5 gameplay trailer featuring almost five minutes of fresh footage.

Rockstar has confirmed a US and European GTA 5 release date of September 17 on Xbox 360 and PS3. The game will launch in Japan on October 10.

Hopefully they aren't as bad as Valve is at getting domains. Valve failed to get steam.com and valve.com.

Wagering Why don't they buy it, if it's for sale?

They are too cheap to buy it probably, or he is pricing it way too high for them.

It was for sale for over $1,000,000 before, I think.

M249 So they are going to file complaints on the domain instead of buying it from the rightful owner? I don't see why you wouldn't just buy it when you're a company with that much money.

Because that is why they buy the domain in the first place.
It's called Cybersquatting, and is the process of buying domains just to make a buck or two from the people who want them; who should rightfully own them.

Essentially it is just being an ass for the sake of it when it comes to cybersquatting. A lot of cybersquatters actually use things like ad.fly whilst linking to the main site to gain more money from doing nothing.

It's just an example of being a poor human being imo..

It's got nothing to do about being a "ass". It's business making money.

Cybersquatting is a stupid term, buying and selling is the very essence of commerce, if you had a car I really wanted I couldn't take it away from you just because I will use it more.

I say if you want something that bad you'd better start flashing the cash.
