Zynga shutting down four games, OMGPOP site

4.7
Zynga's slash and burn to a more manageable and potentially profitable size continues with the closure of four games and the OMGPOP.com site. OMGPOP created former phenomenon Draw Something, earning it the notice of Zynga, which swiftly purchased the company for approximately $200 million just over a year ago.

OMGPOP games Cupcake Corner, Gem Rush, Pool World Champ and Snoops will come to a close on August 29; OMGPOP.com will officially cease to exist on September 30, 2013, three months after the studio's closure in June. OMGPOP was impacted by the same cuts that saw Zynga's headcount reduced by 18 percent.

Zynga notes: "This decision will not affect Draw Something, Draw Something 2 or Draw My Thing - you will be able to continue playing after OMGPOP.com has closed."

The social games giant is currently reinventing itself under the direction of new CEO Don Mattrick, former head of Microsoft's Xbox division.

Woobie Darn, that's gonna be no more whooping people from the SB in pool?

Zynga is so bad. They should have shutdown the zynga site and kept omgpop

justahacker Well, Mattrick isn't doing as poorly as I thought he would. I was honestly expecting to see something headline "Don Mattrick goes down with Zynga Ship".

I'm not expecting him to go down at all, but instead possibly help build Zynga back up. The only thing that seems like could be an issue with him, is if he doesn't get his way he will more and likely leave. He did it when Microsoft removed the Xbox One's DRM.

I was expecting that as well, he's not doing bad. Still wouldn't have left MS.

DMNDS I remember my first zynga game

I only played Zynga on Myspace and that wasn't even that much. After the Myspace days I didn't hear about Zynga for a while or at least didn't acknowledge whenever they were mentioned.

Purity I wonder why Don Mattrick would switch?

I think he threw in the towel after he didn't get his way with the Xbox One. He didn't want the DRM changed but after it happened, he moved over to Zynga.
