PS4 and Xbox One to have different game memory allocations

4.6
The battle between Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4 in terms of their hardware and performance continues as a new report claims Sony's next-generation game console allows game developers to use up to 4.5 GB of its 8 GB of RAM. The other 3.5 GB is reserved for the PS4's operating system.

However, the report from Eurogamer, based on unnamed sources, also claims that Sony might let games access an additional amount of RAM, up to one more GB, in the PS4's memory pool under special circumstances. The article makes it clear that not all PS4 games will be allowed to access this extra amount of RAM.

The PS4's game memory usage compares well to Microsoft's Xbox One, which allocates 5 GB of its own 8 GB of RAM for game developers. The Eurogamer article claims that the Xbox One's RAM requirements are fixed and can't be changed, unlike the PS4.

As we have reported before, the 8 GB of RAM inside the PS4 is of the GDDR5 variety, clocking at 5500 MHz for 170.6 GB/s of bandwidth. This compares to 8 GB of the older DDR3 RAM for the Xbox One, with a clock speed of 2133 MHz for just 68.3 GB/s of bandwidth, along with 32 MB of eSRAM that is supposed to have 102 GB/s of embedded memory bandwidth. A recent rumor is claiming Microsoft might be able to increase the speed of that embedded memory to 192GB/s for the final retail version of the console.

nightryder A real gamer doesn't care about what system is better, I am a huge gamer and I play Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, yes I prefer Xbox controller only because its bigger and more comfy in my opinion, both consoles are gonna have better things than the other, Xbox LIVE is currently better than PSN, yes you have to pay but its better, PSN on the PS4 will be just as good, you have to pay for it now but who cares, also PC is better but some people enjoy console games so PC players stop putting people down by saying Console is **** when it is not.

Xbox live may be better than PS+ when it comes to social and media experiences but PS+ blows live out of the water when it comes to the gaming experience. PS+ has given over 64 games away to plus members for free, totaling to over $1000. When PS4 comes out they will already have 9 games confirmed you can download for free as well

Because when you go from a free service to a paid one you got to give people a reason to buy it. Do you really think the free game a month will still be there in ta couple of years from now?.

Why wouldn't it? PS+ has always been an option and will still only be an "option". If you don't buy it you can still have party chats, play the free online games, use media apps like netflix and a lot more that you can't do on the Xbox One without having live. Obviously you know very little about PS+ because they have been doing their game service for over a year now and have no intention on stopping or even slowing down. I had a 360 since the day it came out and will say I liked it more than the ps3 for the social features (party chat, netflix parties, and even private chats) but PS+ is geared more towards gaming that gold where it's needed for EVERYTHING and 2 games a month is not even close to what PS+ has already been doing for over a year...

The PS4 requires you to buy PS+ to play online so I would imagine it will apply to some apps etc.

What other games could they have to show or announce? To me all that really matters is which one my friends are getting and which one DOESNT FREAKING BREAK.
