Nintendo working to draw indie developers to Wii U

4.5
Sony's supportive relationship with indie developers is highly visible, but Edge's recent interview revealed Nintendo's encouraging under-the-radar efforts to draw indie talent to the Wii U.

"They don't shout very loudly about it, but they are working hard behind the scenes to make their platforms as welcoming as possible," Dakko Dakko Studio Driector Rhodri Broadbent said. Dakko Dakko's upcoming project, Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails, will be a Wii U exclusive.

Former Rare developer and co-founder of Nyamyam Phil Tossell suggests Nintendo's approach focuses on "quality over quantity ... I think Nintendo are actively seeking indies, but they're looking for quality, experienced developers that they can maybe form a longer term relationship with." Nyamnyam's debut effort, Tengami, will reach the Wii U after launching on iOS.

MW2-Rush Most indie games are horrible! :/ Why would they try this?

Your probably saying that because of Xbox Live Indie Games which is mainly crap because it' s on MS's crappy XNA which is restrictive as hell. If you want to see really good indie games I reccomend looking at some the ones on Steam and PSN if you have a PS3.

Your such a Skid -Live. I guarantee that your one of those people that's calls any game with building or mining a Minecraft clone. Minecraft itself is based off of Dwarf Fortress and there are tons of amazing indie games out there, until you achieve the satisfaction that comes with designing and publishing your own game, you will never respect an indie game. Millions of popular games started out as indie's including most of Valves games like TF2 and Bethesda's Elder Scrolls.

If your going to disgrace and put down the indie community, keep it to yourself because to be honest nobody cares about your opinion.

All those game were started on the PC though. Not consoles. Indie games do not do well on consoles. There is a bigger market on the PC plus they get better feedback on what to do better. Once you have a finished product then maybe look at the consoles.

The Wii U could benefit a great deal from this.

Exactly, this is the internet where no one cares about anyone's opinion. :/

Well it looks like everyone cares about Indie games all of a sudden. It's weird especially since most of the people that own a console have never even played one. That might be because the majority of them suck. Xbox indie's are terrible and Steam has a few good ones but there are so many I wouldn't exactly say that it's worth supporting them on the consoles. If your an Indie dev then you should be focusing on PC gamers since you will get way more players and feedback. Once you have a good game then pitch it to MS or Sony. If it is actually good then I guarantee you they will accept since it's more money for them. Minecraft being the biggest example of that.

Cokes Is it just me? Indie games aren't even that popular.

If you can tell from MS and Sony, they are starting to become a much bigger role into Next-Gen. It's in Nintendo's great interest to start getting in indies.
