Microsoft: 'no plans to release Xbox One without Kinect'

4.8
Microsoft has moved to shoot down rumours that it's planning to launch an Xbox One without Kinect.

Yesterday, Inside Gaming Daily claimed the company would release an Xbox One sans the 3D camera next summer.

Citing an anonymous source supposedly familiar with the matter, it said: "This contradicts Microsoft's repeated implication that the Xbox One won't function without a Kinect attached, but it's sounding more and more like that's a bit of PR smoke just to get the Kinect in people's homes,"

But in a statement sent to Kotaku, a Microsoft spokesperson said: "We have no plans to introduce an Xbox One without Kinect. We believe in Kinect and the value it brings to both games and entertainment, and believe $499 is a great value for what consumers receive with their Xbox One."

Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox One will be available in 21 markets this November.

The platform holder revealed its next-gen Kinect sensor at E3, when it said: "Its unparalleled vision, motion and voice technology let you reach into games and entertainment like never before by dramatically expanding its field of view and fidelity. It works in nearly any lighting condition, recognizes precise motion control from a slight wrist rotation, and distinguishes your voice even in a noisy room using advanced noise isolation."

When I said "it" while talking about facial recognition, I meant that I would be the only one using the console, not facial recognition. Just thought I should clear that up before it gets misinterpreted.

They really need to drop the mandatory Kinect. It's just not something that everyone wants, myself included. Facial recognition? Don't need it, I'm the only one who will use it. Voice commands? Don't need those either. That's what the controller is for. I have no desire for the current Kinect and no desire for Kinect 2.0. I'll use it maybe twice, and then it will just collect dust. They'd get a lot more sales from people like myself if they offered a $400 version without Kinect.

I'm still going to buy the console regardless, but I just hate that their forcing Kinect on people who sincerely don't want it.

I dont mind people disliking microsoft for the kinect bundling which i also disagree with but the same select few people come here just to flame and be annoying. They post comments like "What a shit company that only cares about themselves and not the consumer" like grow the hell up. If you really dislike microsoft why keep coming back to each post that TTG posts in the xbox section? Like I swear people just love to start arguments over bullshit. Everyone here that normally defends the xbox should just not respond to these ignorant haters, once the console actually comes out then respond and put them in there place.

NinjaWizard I don't find the kinect being that bad. People are making such a big deal about it.

Neither do I. I watched a video about some of the features it has and it was pretty impressive.

You can just walk into the room and say "Xbox On" and it will turn on.
Yea but are you really happy paying $100 for voice commands that can be done with a controller?

Kinect is doing a lot more than just "crappy voice commands." But apparently you haven't done much research. Kinect is able to detect your face to see if you are enjoying the game or not. If you aren't it will make the game more exciting or "bump it up."

It's also able to detect your facial features and how you look so you can make your in game character look like you.

Reason being is hardcore gamers don't need it. And surely they don't enjoy having to pay $100 for it. Kinect is cool, but it's mainly for kids. I don't see many gamers getting excited to play Kinect.

Darn so now only gonna get cheaper with price drops.

Because you're being forced to purchase something whether you like it or not. It'd be much more convenient to buy it without and knock $100+ off the price. I liked the current kinect, but I think i've used it a total of 5 times over the last 2 years or so.

Disorts Ok microsoft we get it, you don't care about what the consumer wants its either your way or the highway. A crap console along with a company that has proven themselves to be complete douche bg.

Even though they completely reversed the DRM on their console.

when they shouldnt have even had it in the first place. too little too late.

You seem extremely ignorant. Let's put it this way. The DRM was placed for hopes of a steam like market on a console. At E3, Microsoft did not explain the pros of the DRM policy well and did not even use Steam as an example of the new market. At first, Steam was very hated but now it is loved and a huge market with very nice sales often enough that nobody would complain.
did you even ready what you just wrote? microsoft didnt want a steam like console based store. i own a gaming pc and steam doesnt make you do a 24hr check in they are their own entity. before calling someone ignorant which is a very loosely used word to try to insult people, but anyway like i said drm had nothing to do with steam. now come back and talk to me when you have established a argument worth my time

Point 1:
Did YOU read what he wrote?? Note that he says "a Steam like market" and not "a market that is exactly the same as Steam." Sure, Steam doesn't have the 24-hour check. But unless I'm horribly mistaken, Microsoft isn't the one who is going to make the "Steam Box" and they would only use Steam as a reference to show similarities.

Point 2:
When he said "At E3, Microsoft did not explain the pros of the DRM policy well and did not even use Steam as an example of the new market," he was listing them as 2 separate points; not the same one. The way you can tell is the word "and" between the "DRM policy" part and the "Steam" part.

Also, why did you criticize him for insulting the user he quoted, and then go and basically insult him? 2 wrongs doesn't make a right. You could've just said "We don't need to insult one another here" or something similar.

I hope this "established" argument is "worth your time."

did you read what i said? "microsoft didnt want a steam like console based store" and this argument was very established but none of you are worth the time that i am giving you. you took all the bad out of my statement not once did you take the time to understand what i was getting into. console hugging wont get you anywhere but disappointed your standing up for microsoft when they basically spit in your face and mine because i am also a ms fanboy.

I'm pretty sure your wrong on the part about MS not wanting a Steam like console. They wanted to move towards all digital games which would have gotten rid of the used game market. Which is a good thing for the consumer and developers since lower prices for games (since they don't have to compete with used games. Just look at Steam prices) and more money for the creators instead of Gamestop which does nothing for the games. So no used game market and attempting to move towards digital downloads. Explain to me how that is not moving towards a Steam like console. To me it looks like you have a problem with something you don't understand.
