Expect 'initial' PS4/Xbox One shortages, says analyst

Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian predicts that Xbox One and PS4 shortages going into the Christmas period.

Speaking with Gamespot, Sebastian said that "it is more likely than not that there will be initial shortages" due to the inherent "complexity" of a major console launch.

He went on to note, "This also partly explains why the manufacturers have been somewhat judicious in allocating pre-sale units to retailers, so that there won't be a lot of unhappy customers from day one."

Microsoft has confirmed an Xbox One release date of November 2013. It will go head-to-head with the PS4 release which is still officially a more vague 'holiday 2013'.

"From a timing perspective, both platforms will want to launch before Thanksgiving/Black Friday, and ideally at least a couple of weeks in advance of that in order to replenish the retail channel," said Sebastian, who also thinks the console that arrives first will have an advantage of its competitor.

"In terms of who goes first, it would certainly be ideal to launch first, and gain all of the initial attention and momentum, as console launches are really the only equivalent of a 'red carpet' event for the industry," he said.

Microsoft recently claimed that Xbox One pre-orders are "trending higher" than that of Xbox 360 during its respective pre-launch period.

I guess this guy was right because now the are saying that pre-orders won't make it before the launch date. I don't understand why that they don't start producing earlier so they don't have these shortages and they make any more money.

var Considering how much demand they are in. I believe this.

It sounds reasonable, I can believe it to. But how much are they in demand is the question

Guess not.

But, I believe that this shows that people are excited for the next-gen consoles which is great.
