PS4 compatible with PS3 headsets, says Sony rep

4.7
The new PlayStation 4 will allegedly be able to connect to wireless headsets designed for the PS3.

That's according to a 'Sony official' speaking to Polygon at the San Diego Comic Con this week.

Sony will include a basic mono earpiece and microphone with every PS4 (pictured above) but, if accurate, the rep's claim means PS4 owners will have the option of using the slicker PS3 wireless headset instead.

PS4's compatibility with PS3 headsets was not a given, considering the PS4's inability to use PS3 DualShock 3 controllers for reasons undisclosed.

Xbox One owners will not able to use Xbox 360 headsets with the new console, owing to the Xbox One's use of a new proprietary headset connector port.

And Microsoft has confirmed that it will not include a new Xbox One headset with the console, arguing that that the microphone-equipped Kinect sensor found in every box will serve as a sufficient stand-in for multiplayer voice communication.

Replying to #2. You are clearly delusional if you think this is new. The current Kinect already acts as a Mic if you ever did research. So, this is just a feature they are carrying over. AND, who cared that you have to buy a new microphone.

You obviously didn't even read my post. I don't claim that the kinect is some new crazy idea or that no one has ever used one to chat online before. What I am saying is that it is stupid for a company first off make it so ALL headsets that previously worked for an extremely popular system unusable for months and making it so that the only option that comes with the system for online chat is a divide that will not only pick up your voice, but anybody roses that happens to be in the room.

Oh and everyone should care that they have to by a new headset. Microsoft constantly makes these dumb decisions which force consumers to give them more money. This might not matter very much to the few a holes who normally use their kinect to chat but it hurts those who either refuse to make everyone listen to annoying chatter from their end by making them personally purchase a headset and it real hurts those who invested money in quality gaming headsets who now have to wait several months for the adapter to come out just to drop god knows how much money on it or cough up even more money for a xbox one gaming headset. Lest not forget that Microsoft for some stupid preseason didn't put a rechargeable battery in their controller again which forces everyone to go out an purchase rechargeable batteries on their own and the fact that their online service still cost more.

In the end, playstation is still giving me a headset with my ps4 which I won't even need since I can still use my pulse headset, are charging me 10 dollars less a year, and they are giving me a charging cable for my already recharble controller.

Madpup70 1. This is old news, even though I guess it's the first time it's been posted on here. The manager at my local gamestop told me that Sony informed then a while back that PS3 headsets would work with the PS4. Great news considering I just got my pulses back in december.

2. Oh wow, xbox users get to use their kinects? I'm far from a PS fan boy and I like both systems, I even used to own an Xbox, but microsoft will do anything to gouge an extra few bucks out of its costumers. Your either going to have to cough up the extra 25 bucks to by a headset converter (might be higher than that before a 3rd party makes one) or have every single noise in your room play through into everyone's ear. Current mics are bad enough picking up music/little kids in the background and now your going to have to use a device that is designed to pick up voices from far away and amplify them?

TTG_Semper-Fi This just shows how lazy Sony is, I'm glad Microsoft is improving things.

Sony isn't really that lazy. You have no idea what they do for their system and the other things they sell.

-Lewis- Oh no... PS3 mics are so ****. Have any of you played an online game and heard someone talking in one of those cheap $10 mics???
It's weird when people post without knowing how dumb it makes them sound. You realize every good headset for Xbox is made for Playstation right plus default PS headsets are full headsets or bluetooth. I can almost guarantee you've never even used a PS3 mic.
