Xbox One is 'great for small businesses'

4.7
Microsoft is trying to tap into a new market with Xbox One - small businesses.

In a post on the Microsoft Small Business Support website, Xbox MVP Marques Lyons claims that "what is being positioned as an excellent entertainment device can be just as enticing for you and your small business".

The argument put forward is that for only $499, the Xbox One offers features that "could help it rival even the most modest of video conferencing and networking platforms".

Lyons claims that since the inclusion of Kinect and Skype allows people to not only chat to each other but also supports multi-person chatting, with the wide-angle lens of Kinect "you have the means for collaborative meetings and presentations".

"The Xbox One with Kinect, as a Skype provider, is just as capable as a PC with an attached/included microphone and webcam," Lyons goes on. "The difference here is that Xbox One and Kinect gives you the open space to move, gesture, show examples, and see everyone more clearly."

The dedicated SkyDrive app currently available on Xbox 360 and expected to be on Xbox One is another selling point for businesses, Lyons says, as it makes sharing documents and displaying them on the TV to a large group of people easier.

Combined with Internet Explorer and Office Web Apps, "pair that with a Wi-Fi keyboard and mouse and you have the means to edit documents, when necessary, even if you aren't near your PC".

Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox One will be available in 21 markets this November. The Xbox One price has been set at £425 / €499 / $499.

TFM I thought this was a "gaming" console.

That's the issue, Microsoft just want more sales and more money, so this is what they're doing (trying to widen their target audience), but it backfired on them with the TV thing.

React-Network I'm buying the xbox one for gaming and it has everything a gamer needs it can hold its own against the ps4 in specs, they are simply trying to expand it's uses.

Very true but ps4 and xbox one have good thing and bad things about each other etc...

zredstarv2 This is the most asinine comment of the year by Microsoft! No small business is going to buy an Xbox One for conference, Internet Explorer (which Sucks LOL), hahahaha. But wait, you get too view word documents on a 500 dollar gaming console lololololol. They have no intention to sell this to small businesses. They want us consumers to believe this is important for the business world. Folks, 2010 was the year Microsoft started to lose its way. First it was the Windows 8 smartphone. They tried to get in the smartphone market when their is already two Defined smartphone OS leaders. Then they turned the Xbox 360 into a garbage GAMING console by adding all of these ridiculous apps that you can get on a 50 dollar Blue-ray Player. Then they made the dashboard look hideous by adding ads after ads on a PAID Service. Then windows 8 happened Nuff said. Do your self a favor and build a gaming PC with windows 7 or buy a PS3. Sony and Steam, hell even EA origin, know what a gaming platform suppose to be.

I agree with some of your statements but the Windows phones have been pretty successful. Also putting them out in the market gives some competition to iPhones so they which is always a good thing.
