Petition wants Microsoft to bring back Xbox One's DRM

4.2
A petition on Change.org wants Microsoft to bring back the original DRM policies for the Xbox One, saying to "give us back the Xbox One we were promised at E3". The petition cites how the original policies would have made the Xbox One's game store and library like "Steam for Xbox", but "consumers were uninformed" which eventually lead to the DRM policies being reversed.

"This was to be the future of entertainment. A new wave of gaming where you could buy games digitally, then trade, share or sell those digital licenses. Essentially, it was Steam for Xbox. But consumers were uninformed, and railed against it, and it was taken away because Sony took advantage of consumers uncertainty.

We want this back. It can't be all or nothing, there must be a compromise."

This petition follows Microsoft's reversal of their original DRM policies for the Xbox One. Controversially, the Xbox One originally needed to connect to the internet every 24 hours to verify that multiple users weren't accessing the one copy of a game; games that would have been permanently linked to your account, stored on your console or in the cloud, and shareable with up to 10 other people.

Following Sony's announcement that the PS4 wouldn't have always-online or game sharing restrictions at E3, and a public outcry from "uninformed" members of the public, Microsoft reversed these policies. This means that the console essentially operates the same as the Xbox 360, where games are not linked to your account and still require the physical disc to play.

Currently the petition has around 6,000 supporters out of a needed 7,500.

Dont any of you know that Microsoft ask for 70 for games on the marketplace? even months after a games release!!!! In Gamestop, new games cost 45-59.99.S So buying games digitally from Microsoft would be a rip-off! I hope Don Mattrick gets fired if he isnt already. IF YOU DONT HAVE INTERNET BUY THE 360- Don "Epic Fail" Mattrick.

also another thing, I really think they should let you choose what drm you want like so you can have some games online online with the checks and then other games without the checks and still I think that if you have the Physical disc in the xbox you can play with out having to be online

-Wub Why do they want it back?

Innovation.
If the xbone has the old DRM policies back it will be a new experience, while with the updated policies, it's just a $500 better graphic 360. The PS4 is just a $400 PS3, with better graphics. One of the consoles should be different.

Just because there is a petition doesn't mean Microsoft will do it if they do get the signatures and if they do then so be it it's all personal preference anyway

NikolaiLoverG935 Yes please. I signed this petition. Digitally owning games, with the plus of up to 10 people being in the family group to share those games with? All my yes. I was one of those informed of the pros of DRM and was mortified that they took it away because of a bunch of whiny children who want to buy pre-owned or rent games. I buy all my games new, because I buy them when they come out. Why would I wait to rent or get it used? It takes away the joy of a first experience, as hundreds of thousands have done the same before you.

Wait, I thought you were against renting or loaning out (used) games. You first mention how great it would be to share that game with up to 10 people, then you say how bad renting and buying used games are? Also, no one is making people buy used games. If you want to buy a game new, than buy it. Some people, on the other hand, don't have the option to buy every single game new. If anything, its M$ being a child. Why would they take away such a great feature when it can easily be implemented on digital purchases?

Read that. There was used games before. No fee. You could give your friend your disk. No fee.

"There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once." What if I want to let more than one friend borrow MY game?

Are you serious?!?

Who are you to judge? Just let him do it if he wants, I'm pretty sure there were thousands of others, so the policy will probably come back.

I don't think 7,500 people should be able to decide that big of a decision.

Half the people who are arguing about this don't even know the positive side of this, who cares, go with PS4, I'm not letting my self down by not getting a new generation console.
