Petition wants Microsoft to bring back Xbox One's DRM

4.2
A petition on Change.org wants Microsoft to bring back the original DRM policies for the Xbox One, saying to "give us back the Xbox One we were promised at E3". The petition cites how the original policies would have made the Xbox One's game store and library like "Steam for Xbox", but "consumers were uninformed" which eventually lead to the DRM policies being reversed.

"This was to be the future of entertainment. A new wave of gaming where you could buy games digitally, then trade, share or sell those digital licenses. Essentially, it was Steam for Xbox. But consumers were uninformed, and railed against it, and it was taken away because Sony took advantage of consumers uncertainty.

We want this back. It can't be all or nothing, there must be a compromise."

This petition follows Microsoft's reversal of their original DRM policies for the Xbox One. Controversially, the Xbox One originally needed to connect to the internet every 24 hours to verify that multiple users weren't accessing the one copy of a game; games that would have been permanently linked to your account, stored on your console or in the cloud, and shareable with up to 10 other people.

Following Sony's announcement that the PS4 wouldn't have always-online or game sharing restrictions at E3, and a public outcry from "uninformed" members of the public, Microsoft reversed these policies. This means that the console essentially operates the same as the Xbox 360, where games are not linked to your account and still require the physical disc to play.

Currently the petition has around 6,000 supporters out of a needed 7,500.

ModerzFM I'm glad I'm a PC gamer, but if the Petition passes again (Don't know why it would) I will 100% not get a Xbox One. The DRM was the only thing that was wrong with the Xbox One originally. Why would they go back, and shot themselves in the head once again?

What didn't you like about the DRM? You could of traded games. Like you do now with no fee involved. You could give your friend your disk.(Don't know why you would, you could share digitally with the family share with 10 of your friends.) Get sales like steam does. And the 24 hr check in is not even that bad.

yh but what if we want to play offline? they would basically be restricting us if they got rid of that but kept the rest then i would be happy

Then there is an offline system. Xbox 360. I want this to be a NEXT-GEN console, not just a glorified 360. Ps4 is a $400 Ps3.

By NEXT-GEN console, you mean NO-LIFE console right? Because believe it or not, not everybody goes on every single day. Especially on vacations and for soldiers over seas.

1.Why would you bring an xbox on vacation?
2.Microsoft didn't forget about our soldiers. They will continue to support the 360.

I have brought my Xbox on vacation before, I find it a good pass-time for when i want some time alone and to sit down, relax and play a good game. I would want to do this with the Xbox One instead of the 360 because of the increased processing power and more graphic heavy games. That's just my personal opinion though

Aggie I signed the petition. Maybe it will work.

I don't think they will reverse the DRM change because 10,000 people signed a petition. They have multiple million fans around the world who do not want the DRM back. But who knows.. maybe they will re-instate it

People must be stupid because Microsoft already said that the whole sharing games with friends wouldn't even have been on the system right away. Myself the DRM policies don't effect me either way so I could care less which policy is chosen.

neto888 They won't put back the DRM policies if they do people are gonna pull out and ask for refunds so they will loose money l, so idk why people want them if u ask complaining about the lag u still gonna have the lag why cuz u still gonna play with people that have crappy connection

So I say this **** the petition and **** anyone who supports it!

Why would you not want it?

You could either spend $500 on 10 games or you & 10 friends spend $50 on a game & share it with 10 people?

I mean look, your logic is a little flawed; While I do agree the concept seemed pretty good, not everyone wants to pay full retail for 'new' games, or a moderately high price for old ones. Sure you can pool money with your friends and be like lets get 1 copy of bioshock infinite and share it, but games like COD, everyone will still need their own copy. Secondly microsoft isn't gonna be offering deals like Steam does either. If they cut off their ties with actual brick and mortar retailers then maybe.

The thought of not being able to buy and sell used games was also kind of annoying.

I do think microsoft should offer a hybrid; if you buy digital copies of games you should be able to share similar to the old idea, but if you buy actual hard copies then you can still trade/sell or whatever you want.

Yeah so screw the soldiers right? Who cares if we want the better graphics and better games that are sure to come on the Xbox One? We should be happy with a decade old out of date console....
