GTA V: 'Only negligible difference between 360 and PS3 versions'

4.6
Rockstar has assured fans that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Grand Theft Auto V will be virtually indistinguishable from each other.

In a Q&A published on its own website, Rockstar addressed the issue of whether one game had a performance advantage over the other.

"Players can expect the same great gameplay experience on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms as they have both been developed in tandem," Rockstar replied.

"Like all of our games, trust that we're committed to making sure Grand Theft Auto V looks and runs as great as possible regardless of whether you pick it up for PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, and we are excited for fans on both platforms to experience Grand Theft Auto V this September. We expect any visual differences to be completely negligible."

It seems the only major difference will be that the Xbox 360 version will come on two discs compared to the PlayStation 3 version's single Blu-ray disc. However, since both versions will require a mandatory 8 GB install and the Xbox 360 version only needs to run off one disc after this install, that difference could be negligible too.

Elsewhere in the article, Rockstar also shared some other information relating to the game. Players will be able to swap between the three main characters any time they like while not on a mission, and "because they have their own schedules, you'll never know what they might be doing - you might drop in on Michael in the middle of a family dispute, interrupt Franklin chatting up some ladies, or Trevor on the run from the law - or whatever else these guys do in their free time".

Rockstar also insisted that it is "completely focused" on the current gen versions of the game - though it didn't rule out next-gen editions.

The game will also come with a map, as is GTA tradition, but this time it'll be a double-sided poster map. The blueprint map provided with the Special Edition of the game will also feature additional information and secrets on it.

Grand Theft Auto V will be released on September 17 worldwide on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Mandatory 8GB install? For christ sake this is RIDICULOUS, why do companies still think that this is okay? It's not an issue for me, but my brother for example plays a lot of GTA IV and will want to play GTA V too, but he only has a 4GB system.

I like the fact of changing characters but if one ends up like a mile out to sea you will just switch and when you go back to him you will be swimming for like an hour.

Virtually every game for the PS3 is poorly optimized. They are choppy, have more glitches and so on. A select bunch of games such as God of War and Killzone are actually optimized to an amazing extent. My point is if it's a PS3 exclusive it will probably have good optimization but if it's multi-platform then it usually has terrible optimization.
