Nintendo loses battle to take control of WiiU.com domain

4.5
Nintendo has lost the fight to gain control over the domain WiiU.com after a complaint was filed back in February.

WiiU.com in all its glory...
The decision was posted to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) website on Saturday, confirming that Nintendo's complaint to gain control of WiiU.com was denied, as reported by Fusible.

The domain has been registered by a company in Burlington, Massachusetts since 2004.

Fusible notes that WiiU.com was put up for auction, yet once Nintendo filed the complaint with WIPO the listing was removed. It appears that Nintendo will have to pay a sizable amount in order to have control of the domain.

WiiU.com is currently a placeholder site containing link to both Wii U and non-WiiU content.

There has been no explanation provided as to why Nintendo lost the case.

ThisIs50 WiiU is dumb anyway, I am glad that they lost!

that's a horrible comment. WiiU is not horrible. You can't tell me one bad thing about it. It has great games that don't need to be super popular.

The only reason that the WiiU isn't doing very well is because of the lack of good games. It is not 'dumb' what so ever.

FalloutBlade Who plays wii anymore anyways?

People who own a Wii or Wii U console. People who also support Nintendo will more and likely own a Wii or Wii U.

I myself still use my Wii from time to time and really enjoy it. There are some really good games that not many people have played for the console.

RaheemSterling_31 Surely they've offered them a good amount for that domain..

They may just end up doing that seeming that they have recently lost the dispute

If they really want the domain they will have to pay some money for it. I don't see them getting it for free now that they were denied.

It would cost so much to buy it, they made the website before the Wii U came out so they shouldn't be whining about them stealing a Domain name when it was made 8 years before the Wii U release.

Yeah, but if Nintendo really wants it that bad, they are going to have to pay a lot of money for it. If they wouldn't have tried to get it for free by filing a claim for it, they probably could have negotiated a price that was less. Now that the domain owners see that Nintendo wants it this bad to try and file a claim for it, they can charge Nintendo a lot for the domain.

They shouldn't of launched the dispute in the first place.. They could of just payed them out and got it over with. Now there will be a lot more trouble to follow

It'll be more money now. If they would have offered money in the first place it wouldn't have been this sort of trouble. Now that they were denied, the people who own the domain know that Nintendo wants it that bad and can ask for more money for the domain.
