Xbox One price 'less exorbitant after inflation calculation'

4.5
Microsoft's Xbox One may launch this November as one of the most expensive consoles ever, but if its $499 price is measured against other consoles with inflation factored in, the system's RRP is not the steepest.

Games site Ars Technica has listed most of the major games consoles released since the Atari 2600, and adjusted each system's RRP for inflation to bring all in line with 2013.

The results suggest that the Xbox One, in real terms, is $200 cheaper than the PS3, more than $100 cheaper than the Sega Saturn, and less than half the price of the 3DO and NeoGeo.

Ars Technica's chart also suggests that games consoles are generally launching at a cheaper price in real terms. The Panasonic 3DO remains the most expensive, at a 2013 price of £1127, though the NeoGeo is at a close second at £1111.

These figures only represent US launch prices, however. Microsoft is launching the Xbox One in the UK at £429 for the unit, which calculates to $652.

Sony's PlayStation 4 price holds a key advantage, selling at $399 in the US and £349 in the UK.

Microsoft has confirmed an Xbox One release date of November 2013. It will go head-to-head with the PS4 release which is currently officially 'holiday 2013'.

Damn, that's why I think I'll get this when it's on sale.

Of course everybody is going to whine about the pricing. It is a rip off to the uk people but what do you expect? What people don't see is that both consoles are pretty much the same in performance wise and you really won't see a graphic difference in games that's on both of the consoles and not exclusives. Also their performance is pretty much the same and the xbox has more to come with it. PS4 is just for games while the Xboxone comes with the stupid *** kinect and has a lot of entertainment features that the ps4 probably won't have. If the xbox one didn't have the kinect, the ps4 and xbox one would be the same price and I bet you most people would be falling straight into microsoft's arms like they did with the 360. Besides everybody talking sh*t on either console really doesn't know much about either one of them since they never even touched either one of these consoles

The xbox one isn't that bad and for all of you who think it isn't worth it you should actually figure what it would cost to make it based purely on specs and that is without the kinect no doubt they're making money but i doubt it is that big of a difference isn't the stand alone kinect 2 supposed to be like $200? if they sold it without the kinect it would probably be around $300-$400 with slightly worse specs and more features.

Aggie The Xbox One is still going to sell really well and that is just sad.

I know. I guess, to a certain extent, they were right about their name selling the console even when it's a piece of crap.

I think all this pricing crap is stupid. I don't think EITHER of the consoles are worth they're pricing. Give me a smaller system that projects full scale battles into my room. That's worth $600.

Cost of Xbox One - $499 - 429
What 429 actually equates to in dollars, - $652

That is **** disgusting and means that you have to pay about a third more for the console in the UK than in the US. Unbelievable, and they don't understand why the PS4 is easily winning in this batle.
