Multiple Wii online services discontinued today

4.4
As planned, Nintendo is today discontinuing several of the outgoing Wii's online services.

The discontinued services will render the following Wii home menu 'Channels' obsolete:

Nintendo Channel
News Channel
Forecast Channel
Everybody Votes Channel
Mii Contest Channel
Data exchange with Wii Friends

The Data Exchange with Friends closure will affect the "exchange of Wii messages on the Wii Message Board, exchange of Mii characters on the Mii Channel and message/data exchange within some games will be disabled".

This comes seven months after the launch of the Wii's successor, Wii U, in November 2012.

The Wii U Shop channel will remain online for the forceable future, and can be accessed directly via the Wii U system while in its backwards-compatible Wii mode.

Nintendo said within its original announcement, "We at Nintendo sincerely thank you for your continued patronage of our company's products. We apologise to those of you currently using these services."

Oh well, it's not like many people used these channels anyway, most users still interested in Nintendo probably use a Wii-U anyway.

I'm going to be honest, I never really used the channels either. I was mostly playing on the console itself than on the menu or channels.

Me to, I had fun playing on the Wii :) Bowling, boxing, oh the memories.

I didn't really play Wii Sports. I wasn't a huge fan of it. I was more into SSBB and the GameCube games I still had for the Wii.

Yeah, I love those games aswell, but I loved those new thing like sporting and stuff :D

The games were just weird for me, like tennis, no thank you xD I had Wii Sports and played it a couple times but after that I let it sit and collect dust so to speak.

Zer0 A another good pokemon game and we'll talk again nintendo
Other then that idc about u

Pokemon X and Pokemon Y? I know it's a little different with what they're adding to it but I'm sure it will still be pretty good.

Pokemon X and Y look really cool. I have already pre-ordered Y for the 3DS. If you are waiting for a new pokemon game then i suggest giving it a try once it comes out

I'm looking forward to the game. I still would have to buy a 3DS but I think Pokemon X and Pokemon Y will be worth it.

You can pick one up for pretty cheep these days. I got a 3DS Pre-Owned for $110 a few weeks ago

I'll probably check out GameStop or eBay. I already had one of the Pokemon games pre-ordered(Don't remember which one) but I still need to buy a 3DS. I'll probably only use it for that game alone.

There are a few other cool games for the 3DS so if you buy the console consider checking some of them out. Fire emblem awakening and tales of the abyss are examples of some pretty cool games out for the console

I was never a fan of the Fire Emblem series but then again I only played the one for GameCube and I don't think I ever completed it.

Awakening removed many things that the players didn't like and improved the game a lot. I wasn't a fire emblem fan either until i played awakening
