Multiple Wii online services discontinued today

4.4
As planned, Nintendo is today discontinuing several of the outgoing Wii's online services.

The discontinued services will render the following Wii home menu 'Channels' obsolete:

Nintendo Channel
News Channel
Forecast Channel
Everybody Votes Channel
Mii Contest Channel
Data exchange with Wii Friends

The Data Exchange with Friends closure will affect the "exchange of Wii messages on the Wii Message Board, exchange of Mii characters on the Mii Channel and message/data exchange within some games will be disabled".

This comes seven months after the launch of the Wii's successor, Wii U, in November 2012.

The Wii U Shop channel will remain online for the forceable future, and can be accessed directly via the Wii U system while in its backwards-compatible Wii mode.

Nintendo said within its original announcement, "We at Nintendo sincerely thank you for your continued patronage of our company's products. We apologise to those of you currently using these services."

Diffucult I actually think the wii contains Decent Games , has a lot of money because the first jump out on the wii . Also it's a Family System basically. I Even have it just don't use it a lot. Also I love what you could do on there! Wish they added more.

Yeah, I loved the Wii and loved all the exclusives! Especially Mario. :D Never got tired of that game, I have only played the Wii U once though. :/

The Wii contains a pretty cool line up of games, most of them are for a niche market though, Monster Hunter is proof of this

-Wub I feel bad for Wii users.

Not many people where using those channels so they where discontinued. The online service for the Wii is still running just fine

The channel online services were probably costing more money than Nintendo wanted to pay for, and I don't blame them for discounting them. Most people have either moved to the Wii U or PC/PS3/Xbox 360, so the channels were dead and there was really no point in keeping them going.

I agree. If they kept these services running they would of just been loosing money. Hopefully Online servers are supported to an extent by Nintendo.

Yeah. Neflix, the Wii Channel and a few other ones. They also had multiplayer online as well but I don't think many people played online.
