Xbox One: Microsoft explains why it doesn’t include a headset

Xbox One consoles will not be bundled with headsets because it comes with Kinect, Microsoft has said. The company has issued a statement on the matter

In a statement to Ars Technica, a Microsoft official said, “Xbox One does not include a pack-in headset accessory.

“Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor, with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences. For gamers who prefer a headset, we have a variety of offerings that you can find on the Xbox Wire.”

Sold separately, the Xbox One Chat Headset has not been priced, but it is confirmed as having mono sound, a directional mic, volume control and a mute button.

Kinect does have cameras sure, but it’s no use to people who want to play a shooter and who doesn’t want to have the sound of gunfire blaring across their home while their kids are trying to get some kip.

I dont mind, i'm going to work in the UK later on so i should have enough to buy myself a headset, i hated the headset that came with the 360 anyway.

As much as this does make sense, it's just a terrible idea. I just don't see the Kinect microphone being that reliable or good. They better hope that it doesn't pick up the sound of TV's somehow. Multiple people being in a room at once will also get annoying. Oh well. It's not like I ever talk or listen to people other than my friends anyway. It's still dumb though.

Me too, not sure about turtle beach though, lost faith in them as mine always brake quick, getting normal mic for def though.
