Xbox One Will Not Include a Headset Kinect to stand in for omitted headset

4.6
Microsoft has said that the Kinect bundled with every Xbox One will suitably provide the console with out-of-the-box in-game chat capabilities, in place of a headset which will not be included.

Xbox Live has long been considered a more vocally-engaged multiplayer service than Sony's PlayStation Network, largely due to the inclusion of a traditional mono headset with Xbox 360 - as oppose to PS3's sold separately solutions.

Microsoft staff recently confirmed the surprising omission of a traditional headset with Xbox One, and has today issued a statement to say that the bundled Kinect sensor will stand in as a suitable replacement.

"Xbox One does not include a pack-in headset accessory," said a Microsoft rep in a statement to Ars Technica. "Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor, with a highly sensitive multi-array [of] microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences.

"For gamers who prefer a headset, we have a variety of offerings that you can find on the Xbox Wire," they added.

We can only assume that in-game chat via Kinect will be achieved by having the voices of other players coming through your primary speaker system, along with the game's sound effects - which some may see as unfavorable.

It would assumedly also eliminate your ability to adjust voice chat volume or mute your own voice on the fly. The Xbox 360 headsets are, thanks to differing connections on the Xbox One controller, entirely incompatible.

Microsoft has recently updated its Xbox Wire site with more pictures and details for the sold-separately Xbox One headset, which is evidently a fairly conventional mono speaker setup, with volume and mute controls handily within reach of your thumbs while holding the controller - much like the very first-gen Xbox 360 headsets, which were oddly replaced with a headset that had controls awkwardly relocated away from the controller.

You're all blowing this far out of proportion. Most of you will buy a Mic, almost everyone buys a separate mic other than the one with the console. How do you know how the new kinect mic will sound? You don't. If you are all going to get all pissy with everything, you need to look around yourself. Do you own TB's? Astros? Tritons? Most of you do. If you use the Default mic with the Xbox. Ok, does that mean you will have a Mic when you go to PS4? No, at least your getting a mic. Going to PS4 over a freaking mic annoys me because saying you don't have "the money" to go get a mic, means you SURE AS HELL don't have the "money" to go get a gaming console.

-Karma- NO **** WAY ! im done PS4 it is. wow i cant believe that they would do this. i wanna kill myself every time i hear someone with a knitec mic. Yes i know its gonna be better but either way its gonna pick up sound i dont need other people to hear

Sir, your're lack of commas and spell-check is unreal and makes my eyes want to "kill themselves"

Can't make fun of how people spell when you spell your "your're"...

As for the kinect being the microphone... That sucks and there's no way I'll be buying this.

People need to calm down a little, honestly who doesn't use an aftermarket gaming headset anyway? I don't think I've ever used my Microsoft headphones anyway.

Maybe people who don't wanna spend any more than they would have to for the dumb xbo

nd those people who cant afford them and they use a kinetic get muted ASAP

They think that people are going to want to use there kinects as mics?? That's the stupidest idea ever

the problems I see with this is I can't be quite when I am talking to people over the internet, I am going to have to yell across the room to get people to hear me, plus I usually play the game with the sound off or very low and without a headset, I have to keep the volume on very high, which means there will be an echo, plus I will have to go out and spend $30 more to get a headset on top of the $500 I am already spending for the console.

Boooo. That isn't cool. No one asked for a mandatory Kinect and then they make the Kinect the only Microphone that comes with the console? I don't agree with that. I guess I am going to have to find a headset now when it releases. I hate hearing people use the Kinect as a mic and I know I would hate using it as a mic. It's horrible.
