Battlefield 4 ups squad count to five, DICE explains why

4.7
Battlefield 4 will feature five-man squads over the series' staple four-man grouping.

"They've been asking for bigger squads," DICE producer Aleksander Grondal told Joystiq at E3, referring to the Battlefield community's insistance on larger squad counts. "We believe five is a good figure. It allows for more team-based gameplay, basically. You have more options and you can spawn in more places."

In previous Battlefield games, DICE made a purposeful design decision to limit the number of players per squad. "It was a design choice back then – forgive me, I don't exactly remember why it was chosen four. You know, it feels like light years ago from previous games," Grondal joked, rubbing the tired from E3's first day out of his eyes. "But five is a little better; it gives a bit more flexibility and more interesting choices."

Battlefield 4 launches on October 29 for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

5 will be a good number, not too many and not too little. It's kinda funny how they didn't remember why they picked 4 to a squad in the first place.

5 is definitely better for 64 player games.

Im happy with 5. Anymore would be to much! You don't want to kill 3 or 4 of them and let them tell their other 3 friends alive where you are.

JoshRobo98 Does this mean there will be another class or will two people have to use the same class if everyone in the squad wants to use a different class?
There will not be another class. But its good, and makes a perfect infantry squad. 1 Recon, 2 Medics, and 2 Support players for ammo.

No engineer? If there is air support that is dominating your team, you may need someone with a lock on rocket to take them down, you should have at least 1 engineer on maps with air vehicles to have a perfect squad.

Lol, "you may need someone with a rock on rocket" if you're good at battlefield, you'll realize that stingers/iglas are for people with no skill whatsoever. I don't care what the situation is, I'd never use lock on rockets, I'd rather take a jet down with RPGs than use lock ons. But its not surprising coming from someone who loves ponies.

Stop acting like your the best Battlefield player ever, Stingers and Iglas were added because they are real weapons. They were developed because they are faster and more effective at dealing with air threats. I've played every single Battlefield made and its sad to see Call of Duty players flooding this series.

Nobody cares that you use an RPG to take them down, it's not skill, it's being too retarded to use a lock-on!

4-5 is a decent amount 4 was to little because if everyone died you couldn't spawn in on anyone. 5 should be a decent number hopefully. :P
