Xbox One and PS4 pre-orders 'neck and neck' at Amazon

4.6
Amazon.co.uk has reported strong consumer interest in Xbox One and PS4.

In a press release distributed shortly before Microsoft and Sony hold their E3 press conferences, the UK arm of the online retailer said Xbox One is currently edging out PS4 with 2.3 per cent higher sales.

Amazon also said Xbox One pre-orders are 20 per cent higher than they were for Xbox 360 ahead of its release in 2005.

Xavier Garambois, vice president of retail at Amazon EU, commented: "It's not clear yet which of the two will have the edge when they launch later this year - what's certain, though, is that fans are already excited about how the next generation of consoles will change the world of gaming and home entertainment."

Ketu Patel, head of video games at Amazon.co.uk, said: "Both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are set to have a huge impact, not just in terms of cutting edge games but also as part of the way in which families enjoy home entertainment.

"It will be fascinating to see how the battle between the two console giants develops over the coming months - the fight for who's going to be the must-have Christmas present is only just beginning."

While launch dates and pricing details for the new consoles have yet to be revealed, both systems are expected to release later this year.

After last month's Xbox One reveal event was largely used to show off the hardware and its wider entertainment capabilities, Xbox executives have said tonight's E3 conference (5:30pm BST) will be "all about the games".

Sony has teased plans to show off the PS4 hardware for the first time at its E3 conference, which takes place on Tuesday at 2am BST.

Wagering I'm not pre-ordering a console, that sounds kinda silly.

How is it silly? I remember for the 360 release in my town they were sold out EVERYWHERE for Christmas, even on online sites. Thankfully my parents were smart enough to preorder it. Some of my friends had parents that thought they could just let walk into Walmart a week before Christmas.. They had a sad Christmas that year.

And if I remember correctly you couldn't even walk in and buy them on launch day.

I don't think I'm going to preorder unless they offer a nice incentive.

Every single person that's ordered at this point is an idiot, because there's not enough information released to make a judgement on which console is better.
