Microsoft's reveal of the Xbox One game console was hyped several weeks ahead of the hour long event on May 21st. Today, Microsoft announced that 8.45 million people watched the Xbox One reveal show in the first 24 hours.

Microsoft, via its Xbox Wire blog, did not give any specific info on the number of concurrent viewers of its live Internet stream on Xbox.com or via the Xbox 360 console. However, the company did state that the numbers were triple the previous record of concurrent viewers on Xbox.com. It added:

"According to our friends at Akamai, our streaming partner, the Xbox Reveal event was among the most watched live broadcasts delivered by Akamai in their history, nearly doubling peak traffic records and eclipsing concurrent viewership high-water marks set by events such as the 2010 World Cup, Royal Wedding in 2011, and 2012 election night."

In the US, the Xbox One reveal event was shown live on the Spike cable TV network. Microsoft said over 1.73 million people watched the show on Spike, which was broadcast in the US in the late morning and early afternoon hours; that's actually some impressive ratings numbers for a pay cable channel in the middle of the day.

I watched the press conference of the Xbox One and the PS4. Being a PC gamer I think that makes me have a good unbiased opinion but I was more impressed by the PS4. The Xbox One just seemed to have so many missing pieces, bad presentation of games and lots of gimmicks.
