EA to support PS3 and Xbox 360 for '4 more years'

4.4
A key executive at US publisher Electronic Arts has said that current generation consoles will be supported with games until 2017.

Chief financial officer, Blake Jorgensen, revealed the commitment during a keynote address at the Stifel 2013 Technology Conference in New York, according to a GameSpot account of the speech.
He explained that games publicly known to be in development for the Xbox 360 and PS3 includes Battlefield 4, FIFA 14 and the next Need For Speed.

This decision, which would extend the current gen lifecycle to twelve years, may be in part driven by Nintendo's Wii U - a new console with system specs comparable to Xbox 360 and PS3.

In the same speech, Jorgensen insisted that Electronic Arts will still support Wii U - contradicting previous comments issued by the publisher.

However, the firm's new Frostbite 3 engine - which will be used across EA owned studios - is not compatible with Nintendo's system.

Well it'd be stupid if they stopped supporting both companies. Imagine the money they would lose if they did something so stupid.

I am sure they will adapt or make a new engine for the Wii U so they can start developing and marketing some of these games to Wii U owners.

I feel bad for Nintendo, I hope they live strong.

That's pretty impressive! Good that it doesn't force people to swatch to next gen straight away.
