Microsoft to scrap Xbox Points

4.4
Microsoft will abandon its Points based currency in favour of a real world money system, a new report has confirmed.

Tech website the Verge claims that "sources familiar with Microsoft's Xbox plans have revealed plans to replace Points with a new gift card system". It is said that the new system will likely be revealed at E3, or sooner at the official Next Xbox event.

In response, Microsoft has stated that "it's clear its points system is in the early stages of being phased out fully in favour of a local currency one". CVG has contacted Microsoft for further clarification.
However, the company said the Xbox 360 will not likely use any system beyond Microsoft Points, meaning there could be some price comparison issues for future releases, depending on how long Microsoft will support its 360 system for.

The new gift cards are said will work in a manner similar to Apple's iTunes vouchers, which will allow Xbox customers to acquire real-world currency. Cash transactions via credit and debit cards are also expected. It is also said that the new system will work across a whole suite of software from Windows Store to Windows Phone, as Microsoft prepares to better integrate its PC and device services.

In October, Microsoft revealed it was phasing out MS Points for its Windows 8 service.

This could possibly mean that taxes might be introduced. With Microsoft points there were no taxes, but the same can't be said for real world money.

lets hope they let us choose the amount we want when we charge our credit cards to add points. I hate adding 400 points when I only want something for 80.

I'm ok with this. It's not like it's going to make a difference.

It's going to be the same exact system but with real money.

Yeah so what?
They're not going to do anything with your details but take the amount of money from your account from whatever you buy.

Paranoid kid alert.

Don't understand why people don;t like this.

So you're telling me that it doesn't annoy you having to buy points, then buying things with those points to have a measly amount left over that you can;t use on anything?
With the hassle of typing in point codes and the general aspect of having to buy points first.

This system allows you to pay for things by the products amount exactly.
No having to buy a rounded number of points, meaning that buying things on the marketplace is made cheaper.

There is no point in doing this.
