Microsoft to scrap Xbox Points

4.4
Microsoft will abandon its Points based currency in favour of a real world money system, a new report has confirmed.

Tech website the Verge claims that "sources familiar with Microsoft's Xbox plans have revealed plans to replace Points with a new gift card system". It is said that the new system will likely be revealed at E3, or sooner at the official Next Xbox event.

In response, Microsoft has stated that "it's clear its points system is in the early stages of being phased out fully in favour of a local currency one". CVG has contacted Microsoft for further clarification.
However, the company said the Xbox 360 will not likely use any system beyond Microsoft Points, meaning there could be some price comparison issues for future releases, depending on how long Microsoft will support its 360 system for.

The new gift cards are said will work in a manner similar to Apple's iTunes vouchers, which will allow Xbox customers to acquire real-world currency. Cash transactions via credit and debit cards are also expected. It is also said that the new system will work across a whole suite of software from Windows Store to Windows Phone, as Microsoft prepares to better integrate its PC and device services.

In October, Microsoft revealed it was phasing out MS Points for its Windows 8 service.

Suffolk Maybe this is a good thing... Let's just hope you can put on how much you want e.g , 4.76 or 3.21 not specific like 10,20,30

But you have to remember, Microsoft is spending money on the plastic of the gift card and the ink. So I would say 10-20 dollars.

Really hope you dont have to buy like specific amounts and be able to buy what ever the cost is.

its going to be like Sony does, you will buy a $50 dollar card and it will be used up like real money with taxes on purchases.

i can assure you, it will be but in an escrow account and they will earn interest with our money!

40 million live subscribers with only 50 cents in the account, that's $20 million earning interest for M$!

MSP is one major way that Microsoft gets their revenue. It be stupid to take them away, but also smart.

_Skrillex- Don't really like the idea of this

Why not? The games will be the same price, just now it's easier to actually see how much money an item actually costs rather than points which you have to buy a bulk amount of, just to buy one small item which you can buy another 3 of with the points you just purchased! This will allow for direct payments, it'll be a lot easier for all of us

Well, since its moving to a gift card system, you will still need to buy a bulk amount. But other than that I agree, I like the MSP points thing, but I don't mind switching.
