Microsoft to scrap Xbox Points

4.4
Microsoft will abandon its Points based currency in favour of a real world money system, a new report has confirmed.

Tech website the Verge claims that "sources familiar with Microsoft's Xbox plans have revealed plans to replace Points with a new gift card system". It is said that the new system will likely be revealed at E3, or sooner at the official Next Xbox event.

In response, Microsoft has stated that "it's clear its points system is in the early stages of being phased out fully in favour of a local currency one". CVG has contacted Microsoft for further clarification.
However, the company said the Xbox 360 will not likely use any system beyond Microsoft Points, meaning there could be some price comparison issues for future releases, depending on how long Microsoft will support its 360 system for.

The new gift cards are said will work in a manner similar to Apple's iTunes vouchers, which will allow Xbox customers to acquire real-world currency. Cash transactions via credit and debit cards are also expected. It is also said that the new system will work across a whole suite of software from Windows Store to Windows Phone, as Microsoft prepares to better integrate its PC and device services.

In October, Microsoft revealed it was phasing out MS Points for its Windows 8 service.

This is good and bad,

It's good because you can now simply pay the amount of money required for DLC instead of paying for 400MSP when you need 20.
It's bad because now you can't get discounted point cards and save money that way -_-

Wooo! No more using fake money!

UFOs Basically PS3.

A lot of gaming services use real money currency, so Xbox is just joining Steam, PS3, Onlive, and much more! :)

No more little kids trying to scam for Microsoft points, thank you Microsoft. :)

Danimals I think it's a great idea. But we're are going to have to put our credit cards and stuff on the account? Bad idea on that part what about little kids? Parents always get them points because they don't want the cards on the account. It's got it's good side and its bad side. I don't really like it though.

you will most likely still be able to buy cards in stores just worth $10 for example rather that x amount of msp

-Zebrx This is just stupid

Actually it's a good idea since MS points suck as you always have leftover and nothing to spend them on. My bet is you just have no money to buy MS points so you think the entire idea is stupid.

I'm not sure how to comment on this, I have only had one problem w/ MSP/Membership cards before and that was cause the cashier forgot to activate the card...That was 3 years ago.

From the looks of it you'll still be able to purchase these in card form which is a plus for everyone.
