Dead by Daylight Spin-Off Canceled

4.2
Publisher Behaviour Interactive has announced that the upcoming third-person co-op shooter Project T, set in the world of Dead by Daylight, has been canceled. The recent release of the Dead by Daylight spin-off title The Casting of Frank Stone was met with mixed reactions, and it seems that Project T was canned for a similarly negative response prior to its official launch.

Fans have enjoyed a number of high-profile horror crossovers in Dead by Daylight over the years, with frequent updates keeping players engaged with the game's world. While Behaviour Interactive has been working to bring the realm of the Entity to new audiences with additional spin-off content, one in-development project has already met an unfortunate end.

Behaviour Interactive announced via its official Twitter account that the third-person shooter Project T has been canceled following negative feedback during early-stage play testing. A spin-off game based on Dead by Daylight, Project T would have offered players a four-person co-op experience with unique gunplay mechanics, new enemies, and an entirely different environment than the familiar maps found in the popular asymmetrical horror title. The original announcement for Project T was met with mixed reactions to its massively different gameplay, and a brief playtest period in July noted mostly negative responses. As stated in the official announcement, "unsatisfactory overall results" from this testing influenced Behaviour's decision to cancel the spin-off title "with a heavy heart."

Some playtesters have responded to the cancelation post with surprise, while others voiced support for the studio's decision. Dead by Daylight fans have begun sharing words of encouragement for the development team, and many are hoping that the cancellation of Project T will not negatively influence Behaviour Interactive's decisions regarding the possibility of other future spin-off content. While there have been no announcements of any other spin-offs currently in the works, Dead by Daylight players are keeping their fingers crossed for even more horror-focused content. It remains to be seen if Behaviour will continue to pursue more DbD-adjacent projects or simply focus on future updates for Dead by Daylight.

A number of video game spin-off titles have found success over the years, though there have been just as many releases to stumble before reaching the finish line. Despite mixed reviews, The Casting of Frank Stone has proven that a Dead by Daylight spin-off can find a supportive audience, perhaps offering a bit of hope to those disappointed by the cancelation of Project T.

watched the "a first look" for Project T a few months ago, and it did seem like an interesting game

pity they cancelled it. Maybe one day they bring it in as a DLC

They need to just make all the horror games from each franchise
