Nintendo’s New Guidelines Could Lead To Permanent Bans For Steamers

3.8
Nintendo taking extreme measures to keep their IP protected isn't something new, and the game producing studio is now the talk of the town once again as their new updated rules put streamers and content creators at risk of being banned forever.

The 'Online Video & Image Sharing Platforms' guidelines, which were first introduced by the studio in 2018, and have received constant updates from then, got yet another refresh recently, revealing that the studio now holds the right to object, and ban users forever for showing Nintendo's creations in an unlawful, infringing, inappropriate manner.

Furthermore, your favorite creator can get in trouble as the above applies to a few restrictions set by the studios themselves.

In an FAQ section shared on the same page as the guidelines, Nintendo reveals how content extracted through data mining and similar techniques cannot be used in videos or live streams.

Q11:What do you mean by content that is "unlawful, infringing, or inappropriate"?

-Features video, images, sound sources, etc., that cannot be used in regular gameplay, extracted through game software via data mining or other methods.

Nintendo isn't exactly a 'look the other way' type when it comes to infringing on IP rights and trademarks. Only a few months ago, the studio struck down the popular Switch emulator Yuzuafter receiving a legal notice.

The studio is renowned for enforcing strict restrictions on all its content, and the recent update to the content creation guidelines is no exception.

The guidelines also particularly mention how the restrictions go beyond mainstream platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and Twitch. This ultimately means that Nintendo is finally starting to crack down on the major leaks that happen in the industry.

These leaks, often sourced through data mining and encrypted game files, are further distributed through unofficial channels, revealing game secrets and even unannounced features before the scheduled date.

Nintendo is known for actively defending its trademark with a strong team of lawyers ready to go at any given moment.

Making it essential for creators to familiarize themselves with the new restrictions as long as they wish to continue working with the studio's titles, making sure they do not share any data-mined information or leaked content in their videos or streams.
