Avowed Details Abilities, Progression, and More in New Gameplay

3.8
We’ve seen plenty of Avowed already, and as we move closer to its February release, Microsoft and Obsidian Entertainment continue to showcase more of the action RPG. During the former’s ongoing day 3 Gamescom livestream, we got another look at the game, showcasing a full quest in one of its earlier dungeons.

Several of Avowed’s core systems and mechanics are showcased in the gameplay demonstration, from progression to character creation. Players will be able to invest in five different background checks that they will be able to fall back on in conversations from time to time, given the situation and given that they have invested enough in the background.

Where progression is concerned, as you level up, you’ll be able to invest in a host of different abilities, spread out across five different skill trees, each bringing their own unique specializations- Ranger, Fighter, Wizard, Godlike, and Companion.

In the middle of conversations, players will be able to access a conversation log at any time with the press of a button, which, incidentally, will also bring up a lore guide on the screen, which will function (sort of) similarly to Final Fantasy 16’s Active Time Lore system.

Exploration will involve some parkour elements, with an emphasis seemingly being placed on vertical level design, while there’s also going to be some focus on puzzle solving. The new gameplay also showcases a fair bit of combat, with different enemy types (including a skeleton miniboss, not to mention a boss fight to close off the showing), abilities, weapons, loot, and of course, the game’s emphasis on choice and consequence mechanics.

Check out the showing below for more details.

Avowed is set to launch on February 11 next year for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
