Call of Duty: MW2 H2M Creator Explains Why Activision Shut Down Mod

3.8
The creator of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 H2M mod has explained why Activision decided to shut down their ambitious project. According to him, Activision's decision was driven by concerns that the release of the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer remaster could negatively impact the sales of their upcoming title, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

The H2M Mod, designed to revive Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer with enhanced features, was scheduled for release on August 16. However, just before launch, the developers announced that Activision Publishing had issued a cease-and-desist order, forcing them to shut down the project permanently. The mod had attracted considerable interest as it aimed to fill the gap left by Activision’s decision not to include a multiplayer remaster. The sudden cancelation led to backlash, with players expressing frustration, initiating a petition, and review bombing Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam. Even the eSports organization FaZe Clan voiced disappointment over the situation and called for the mod to be allowed.

Now, Watchful Wolf, the founder of the H2M mod, has released a video explaining why the mod was shut down by Activision. According to him, they were just hours away from releasing the mod when he received a cease-and-desist letter from Activision, prompting them to immediately halt all activities, including shutting down servers and taking their website offline. The creator shared that Activision's decision was influenced by the growing popularity of the MW2's H2M mod and its proximity to the release of Black Ops 6. Activision was reportedly concerned that the mod could interfere with the marketing and potential sales of the upcoming game.

He also noted that, in his view, even if the mod had been developed on another platform like Black Ops 3, it would likely have faced the same fate due to its popularity and timing. Looking ahead, the creator mentioned that he plans to step away from modding Call of Duty games but will continue to explore other mods and games on his channel. He hinted at possibly developing a new game, although he emphasized that this idea is still in its early stages with no concrete plans.

While it remains uncertain whether Activision will reconsider its decision regarding the MW2 multiplayer remaster, Black Ops 6 is set to be released on October 25. The Call of Duty franchise continues to generate significant anticipation as numerous leaks and official information about the upcoming title are revealed.

Ohh 100%

I was planning on buying mw just for this. I felt that it would be taken down but also hoped it didn't

I can understand from activations perspective why they took it down. They should also realize that their new titles are dog shit and most of their player base want the same gameplay as earlier titles.

Yeah, I concur with these statements also
