Overwatch 2 lead gameplay designer Alec Dawson recently revealed that the team is actively developing strategies and alternatives to balance the counter-swapping tactics.

Overwatch 2 builds on the foundation of the original game with new modes, maps, and an expanded hero roster. The shift to 5v5 gameplay in Overwatch 2 has introduced a more dynamic and fast-paced experience but has also brought new challenges, particularly for those playing the tank role.

Dawson emphasized that while counter-swapping is a significant concern, the team does not want to restrict players to a single Overwatch 2 hero throughout the match. He also emphasized the importance of educating players about their roles and how their hero choices impact team composition, noting that support players, for example, can also switch roles to adapt to the team's needs.
