Miyamoto: People will come to depend on second screen

4.8
"There was a period when we first released the Nintendo DS that people would say there's no way people can look at two screens at once," Shigeru Miyamoto told CNN. The DS was released in 2004, and slowly grew to sell over 153 million units worldwide (as of December 31).

"I almost feel like, as people get more familiar with Wii U and these touchscreen interfaces, that there is going to come a point where they feel like 'I can't do everything I want to do if I don't have a second screen'." The trick, of course, is getting people familiar with Wii U, something Nintendo has yet to accomplish judging by hardware sales.

"I feel a device like Wii U, with its ability to continue to offer new features and that network connection and the connection to the TV and the interface, really makes it feel that it's more than just a game machine, but something that offers a lot of practical use and practical purpose in the living room," Miyamoto said.

Miyamoto reiterated plans to update the firmware to make it "a little more stable, a little bit more convenient to use from a system standpoint." He's also working on figuring out how to "convey the usefulness of Wii U" to potential owners through games. "For me as a game developer, obviously I look at Wii U from the perspective of what games I can bring to Wii U."

STaRzZ_HDII this was a good idea but look where the wii has gone? when the console came out it was 135 now only 35

The old Wii is only $35? Thats like crazy cheap. I see them for $100 new on amazon.

If you go on eBay they are so cheap

CL4PTRAP The wii u isn't getting as much popularity. In my opinion it should be it's a great device.

Not a splash on PS4 or Xbox 720

I know when the PS4 and next xbox is released wii u sales will go ---______________________ down

There will be no wii in the world when they come out

I'm sure Wii realizes that when the new consoles come out that they are going to be left in the dust. Unless they can't make something similar to the PS4 and Xbox 720 they are done for. They should have just stopped at the Nintendo 64 lol

Yes the Nintendo 64 was very fun and was what started me in gaming but if they did make a console like that it would be like Mario games only

at first when i got a wii u, I was really impressed at the idea of being able to play without using the main tv, being that my console was hooked up to the living room tv other people would always want to use it, the thing that killed it for me was the lack of good games

The device is a good idea. But the experience isn't there in terms of games, or the idea backed fired

It was smart. But remember, if Microsoft or Sony made it it would have been more successful ;)
