Microsoft exec: I don't get the drama around always-on

4.2
'I don't get the drama around always-on. That's the world we live in. Deal with it.'

The creative director of Microsoft Studios has defended always-connected consoles as fresh reports circulate of a constant internet requirement for the next Xbox.

Taking to Twitter, Adam Orth said he didn’t understand the drama around an always on console, and stated that it’s part of “the world we live in”.

He finished his Tweet with the hashtag “Deal with it”.
“Sorry, I don’t get the drama around an “always on” console,” he said.

“Every device now is “always on”. That’s the world we live in. #Dealwithit.”

When appearing to be questioned by BioWare’s senior gameplay designer Manveer Heir on whether the company had learnt anything from the issues suffered by the likes of Diablo III and SimCity, and that people can lose their internet connection, Orth responded with “Electricity goes out too”.

Heir went on to state that not all places had good connections, to which the Microsoft exec retorted: “Why on earth would I live there?”.

Heir has since said however that he is good friends with Orth, and the two often joke around, telling readers “Don’t read too much into our back & forth”.

“No one in this world is as good as you think they are and no one is really as bad as you think. You see a 2D image of people on the internet," he said.

Orth also apologised for any offence caused to the cities referenced in his retort, and said: "Just the normal daily back and forth I have with Manveer. Apologies for offending non-cities. I was trolling him personally."

As the expected reveal of the next Xbox draws near, reports continue to suggest that Microsoft has opted for always-online functionality for its next-gen console.

It has been claimed that the connection is required to use the new Xbox and play games, even in single player. A previous report also claimed that each disc would come with its own activation code, meaning only the initial user can install and play the game, potentially killing off the second had market.

The Exec sounds like a bit of an idiot. Yeah my Xbox is always connected to the internet, but I've got friends who's Xbox's haven't been online. Microsoft need to think about those who don't have online connections.

darkowl1991 HE has a point my xbox is always connected to the the net and I'm not the only one. Quit your ***** about it, if you don't like it don't get it it's that simple.

Ya, you're totally right. Everyone in America is in the exact same situation you're in. Except that most people in the U.S. have to deal with slow internet connections(616K/s average), internet caps(couple gigs a month), and internet blackouts. Oh ya, what happens after M$ stops supporting the 720 and shuts off its servers? You will have on big paper weight. In a sense, you're not owning the Xbox, you're just paying 300-400 to rent it. Also, you should quit your ******** about people ******** about this stupid feature on the console. If most people want to ***** about it, they have as much the right to do so as you have to criticize them. You demanding(********) them to quit ******** about it makes you a hypocrite.

Xbox will not stop supporting the 720 for the next 15 years, as the xbox 360 will keep being supported for atleast 5 years oafter the 720.
also you told him to stop bitching then said people have a right too. You are a hypocrite asell :D

Sorry for the triple post, but looks like Microsoft issued an apology on behalf of this guy. It said

"We apologize for the inappropriate comments made by an employee on Twitter yesterday. This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views do not reflect the customer centric approach we take to our products or how we would communicate directly with our loyal consumers. We are very sorry if this offended anyone, however we have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter."

On topic - Even though my internet connection doesn't suck and I rarely have issues with it. I don't like the idea at all, every time that some sort of rumor comes out it makes the PlayStation 4 look like a much better choice.

I hope Microsoft doesn't disappoint this generation, specially since my LIVE is good all the way until December 2015 :(

Taylor-Swift PC will be better then the 720 and ps3 by far

next joke...

You're ignorant to think so. PC has always been better.

It's okay hes not the sharpest tool in the shed

back in the day xbox 360 used to be a lot better than pc but now pcs are better but when the next gen console comes out they will be better than pc for about 2 or more years

yeah i agree, they used to be better back in 2007, but now pc's are to good and advanced, plus they have alot more storage so it is easier to make them better than consoles tbh, otherwise consoles would have to be bigger.

What PC elitists don't realize is the following.

1. Game companies care to deliver to CONSOLES first before they care about the PC (Few exceptions to that) but it's the case most of the time.
2. PC Specs are better, but most games will be developed to look good in a console and then slightly better on a PC. As a developer YOU ARE OUT to make money, not to satisfy just the PC gamers.
3. Not all 12 year olds can afford a decent PC, most parents just buy them a console which makes it a lot easier to get them games.
4. The majority of people out there (casual gamers) will not get a PC to play games, it's either an iOS/Android device or a game console.

On a side note, I enjoy PC gaming, I have a monster of a gaming PC, and even though it's great for some games. You have to face the reality of just getting the shitty ports from console games and the fact that at least good 90% of your friends do not play PC games.

*puts shades on*

deal with it.

Ok..... what? Are you 12? Let me respond to your verbal diarrhea. 2/10

1)you obviously dont even follow or understand game production. Games are produced on PC, they are ported to developement kits and tuned down to be playable by consoles. Please use google.
2) This is just stupid, again games are produced on PCs, you completely contradict yourself. IF a developer is out to make money they are obviously going to make the best game possible on all platoforms in order to sell the most inventory, not just cater to consoles or pcs.
3) This is irrelivent, most people cant afford a ferrari, so they buy a ford taurus, this doesnt mean that ferraris arent better. It just means you arent fortunate enought to own one.
4) The majority? Why are you speaking for the majority? You are one 12 year old kid that doesnt know a damn thing about the market. Please i urge you to go to google and go look up some credible sources.

On a side note, I dont doubt you have a PC and play games. But if you are only playing "shitty ports" from console only games, I really dont think that you even have the grounds to say that you have a "monster PC" and maybe you should re evaluate your game choices. (obviously angry birds wasnt meant for pc buddy). And also, If 90% of your friends are only on consoles, maybe you should get some new friends.

*puts shades on*

deal with it

I'm well aware how games are made, point was that even with all the powerful processors/video cards that are available for the PC, they STILL have to limit themselves on the console hardware. A developer isn't going to make a game that will look incredible on the PC and look completely terrible and overshadow the one on the consoles because it wouldn't appeal to the console gamers causing them to lose sales. Simple as that. Even if the games are developed in the PC, in certain cases PC gamers get a subpar version of the game for example (Call of Duty, always been horrible on the PC). On the other hand Battlefield 3 was designed with the PC in mind which made it a much better game.

You still fail to realize that, it's not always a choice. Most young gamers don't have the option of getting a gaming PC, most parents don't know a/b/c about computers and they most of them prefer simply sticking to consoles, less maintenance than a PC and easier to use.

Kids could want one, doesn't mean they are getting one. As an adult, yeah it's a choice right there. I personally built my own PC (i7-2700K 3.9Ghz, 32GB RAM, GTX GeForce 580). I tend to play games on the PC that I can't stand on the consoles (Skyrim,, Crysis, Battlefield 3 etc) or if there is tons of mods are available for certain game.

I don't really need new friends, I don't look for a "Must gave a gaming PC" requirement to be friends with people. I enjoy video games, but there is so much more to do out there.

One thing I urge you to do is to learn how to spell properly

"platoform, irrelivent, developement, i, lack of apostrophes.

Let me guess you and Sparkies have swag too?
