Next gen Xbox will have Blu-Ray!

Earlier today, a Microsoft Durango Development Kit popped up on the internet. Included with the leak were 5 images of the "Microsoft Durango XDK Documentation Setup" which shed light on previously unknown parts of the console's hardware and functionality.  

What we find to be the most significant aspect of the leaked documentation can be seen in the image below. It says: "Durango consoles will have a Blu-Ray Disc drive. Disc media will be used for distribution, but during gameplay, games will not use content from the optical disc." What do you think of this?

HarryWilliamJohnson This only means one thing Sony have won. Because if blu ray will be in the next xbox a percentage of the sales will have to go to sony because sony owns blu ray.


Sony don't own Blu Ray. They have the patents, licences and are on the board of directors which allows them to use the technology. But Microsoft could apply for a license and potentially buy the patents then use it without having to pay royalties.


Plus, let's be honest here, Microsoft could probably buy Blu-ray so that no one else could use it if they wanted. They wouldn't, but they could.

its not only Sony who own blu-ray therefor microsoft has not failed but have improved

They are one of multiple companies on the blu-ray board, not the sole company

Im glad there starting to think like PS...now since Xbox's will have blue ray players, I must get a blue ray player for my custom PC ..
