PlayStation 4 Not Backwards Compatible With Retail or Digital Games

4.7
In a conversation with journalists, the President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios said that PS3 games - both the retail and downloadable variety - will not be compatible with PlayStation 4, at least not natively. In other words, your PS3 discs won’t work with the new console, neither will any games you downloaded. This means that titles like Journey, The Unfinished Swan, Shatter, and hundreds of other games available in the digital space will not be carried over to PlayStation 4, in addition to the collection of PS3 discs you already have.

However, you *will* be able to play PS1, PS2 and PS3 games on the PlayStation 4 by downloading them. The PlayStation 4 will include the services Gaikai. They offer cloud storage, and this is where you will most likely buy your old games from. The bad thing is, if you already own a game and you want to play it on the PS4, you will have to buy it from the online store in order to play it.

“There are two ways to play legacy content: emulation, or cloud services from Gaikai. But native support of digital games from PS3, no, sorry. It doesn’t work.”

Reduction Hopefully this makes Microsoft allow it.

I was thinking the same thing, if MS allows old games they will have such an advantage.

Can't agree more, just hoping Microsoft allow it.

Brad-
Axe Maybe this might be because they are in a different format or just aren't physically able to.

I don't think sony is plotting against us or anything

Or they want us to buy more games...

If it will be anyone that dose that it will be microsoft.

Of course you would have to buy them a second time to play them.

This **** sucks, its wrong. I don't own a ps3, but if I bought a few games of the online store, I would expect them on my ps4 free.

XeJames This would be acceptable if people did not need to practically re-buy their PS3 games just to play them on the PS4. They should at least make the cost to re-buy the games for the PS4 considerably cheap (If previously owned).

That would be very hard to accomplish

How would they implement that?

easy if you have the case and game for ps3 u can exstange it for a discounted ps4 one
