New DayZ update shows off new island and revamped loot spawning

4.7
Dean Hall, who is the DayZ mode creator, has been working very hard on the standalone retail version of DayZ since it was announced back in August.

A majority of the first part of the video deals with clothing, but the part that everyone is most interested in comes near the end. Matt Lightfoot joins Dean in this video to explain how loot spawning has changed, specifically items can spawn in odd places like behind overturned chairs or underneath kitchen tables. What this means for players is that in this standalone, you're going to have to invest a little more time looking around for loot.

DayZ also gets the swamps added to the island along with another small island off the coast of Chernarus. It's an island pulled directly from Arma 2.

The downside to all this wonderful news is that there is no word yet as to when we will get to play the standalone version, but he did say that the team at Bohemia Interactive are working to be more transparent during the development process, offering information in blogs and more frequent video updates like this.

VisionaryMGMT I wonder what the hardware requirements are going to be like on this, anyone got any figures?

If it's using the same engine as ArmA 2, then I should be able to..

It's using a modified version of the ArmA 3 engine. The ArmA 3 engine is supposedly meant to be more optimised than the ArmA 2 engine. So if you can run ArmA 2 fine ArmA 3 should run better.

I am assuming there using the Arma 2 engine and second there is no Arma III engine so yeah...

To correct my first comment...Real Virtuality engine.. Yes, there is another, newer version
