Microsoft 'to axe XNA'

4.6
The future of Xbox LIVE Indie Games is becoming clouded. Microsoft says DirectX 'is no longer evolving'.

Microsoft has given the clearest signal yet that it will phase out XNA, the development framework which had become popular among many indie game developers.

In an email reportedly sent to multiple game developers and MS employees, Microsoft confirmed that XNA would be "retired" from a program that promotes the company's own technologies.

However, many developers are still waiting on receiving this email.

The email said that XNA Game Studio is "not in active development".

In the long run, this would mean that the framework will be less and less relied on for developing Xbox games. But it is now speculated that Microsoft is preparing a replacement.

Well, I guess it's just a matter of time, then, until my XNA books are now worthless to me.

I hope the replacement (if there actually is one(I'm pretty sure there will be)) will allow us to use C++ in some type of way so that we can run "better" code in our games. XNA was very limiting to what you could do with your games (in my opinion, at least).

Microsoft will probably just throw out a new framework for their "Visual C++". But whether they do or don't, it will still be better than XNA; so I'm absolutely fine with that.

READ THE DAMN ARTICLE BEFORE YOU COMMENT.

Microsoft are not getting rid of Indie games, why the hell would they do that? XNA is an outdated platform which is hardly used, most games nowadays are just written in C++ because it's quicker and has more potential.
