A leaked presentation that is reportedly from Sega of America has potentially outlined the company's plans for Sonic in 2024, with the highlight being a new mainline game for the holiday season.
Sonic Superstars might be just around the corner, but that doesn't mean that Sega isn't already planning ahead for the blue blur's future. We already know about some of those plans, including the Knuckles spin-off series and third movie, but we might have just gotten an even clearer picture thanks to a leaked presentation that is reportedly from Sega of America.
That presentation, which was shared by Redditor vilkam on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, claims to be a "brand and licensing update" for 2023 that overlooks how the year has gone for the hedgehog and appears to be for marketing partners, since a lot of the details are sales-focused, such as an early claim that Sonic is the "Most Popular Game Character in America!!!".
Although a lot of the presentation simply shares how Sonic's various ventures into different branches of marketing are performing, one of the final slides has some rather interesting information for fans which, if legitimate, appears to detail what Sonic content we can expect to see over the next year.
The slide, which is titled "Content to Fuel Consumer Products" lists some of the projects that are expected in 2024. The first is the Knuckles TV show, which has seemingly been delayed out of 2023, while the second mentions that Sonic Prime's third season is expected in the first quarter of the year, something that's already been confirmed.
The presentation then claims that a new Sonic mobile game is coming next year, and that DLC for Superstars is planned for an unspecified date, something that doesn't seem too far-fetched. The really interesting part of the presentation, and the biggest claim that it makes, is that a "new game" is planned for Holiday 2024, with a "prologue" for it coming a few months before its official release.
It's not quite clear what the "prologue" means here, since the presentation also mentions that Sonic Superstars was meant to get a prologue in the third quarter of this year, but it's possible that it simply means when the game is going to be announced. It seems unlikely that whatever new game is being mentioned here is a spin-off or remake of some kind, as Sonic Frontiers only just finished its post-launch DLC a few weeks ago.
a Sonic Team business PowerPoint leaked and if it’s real, let’s say 2024 is a pretty packed year for the brand. pic.twitter.com/3Qz4pQlVme— Ramona! 🏳️⚧️🍋✂️ (@DPlexHD) October 12, 2023
So far, it's not clear whether this presentation is legitimate, but if it is then it seems like 2024 is going to be a big year for Sonic across both gaming and films. There are some things about the presentation that seem a little iffy, like the low image quality on some slides, but it does seem like a lot of work to put into a fake leak.
