Call of Duty development offer declined by Gearbox

4.6
You may be familiar with Gearbox, they are the company who developed Borderlands. Well, reports are coming out that Gearbox has turned down an opportunity to develop a Call of Duty game because their studio boss Randy Pitchford "saw no real challenge" in it.

During an interview several months ago with the German site KGN, Randy Pitchford stated that Gearbox only develops a game "when we can contribute to an existing brand something new - a kind of unique perspective and a new approach."

Mr. Pitchford does not feel that opportunity is present with the Call of Duty series.

Seeing how important the Call of Duty series is to Activision, and how dominant the game is due to a set formula the previous developers have followed each year, Pitchford went on to question just how much flexibility his studio would even have if they were to pursue the next Call of Duty.

Pitchford stated, "You have to play by the rules of the series." He then stated, "You have to do what is expected of a Call of Duty. In this I see but no real challenge for us. It would not strengthen our reputation as a studio, it would not be really motivating for our team."

Bruh They need to redesign call of duty all together or make like a different brand of call of duty cause just like gearbox said its to easy cause its the same thing over and over, Make a mixture of halo with cod where you could jump like a million feet and stuff or make it cartoony like battlefield heroes that could work also make a cod revolution like people have sticks and muskets and cannons lmfao that sounds horrible

you should google "Mount and Blade Warband Napoleonic Wars DLC" That is far more entertaining than cod

Iglesias Glad Gearbox declined. No one should help Call of Duty. They have been losing sales through out the years.

And they have been the most sold games throughout the years. What does that tell you?

It tells us that the average "gamer" has absolutely no standards.

when they sell over 13 million copies....its not jus "average" gamer. and why does everyone hate on cod its so funny to see. its like if you dont like cod dont click on cod related ****.

I'm disappointed by their decision.
Brothers in Arms actually looks really good because it's using the Unreal engine.
Lets face it CoD is slowly dying off. It really needs something knew and fresh, I'm still waiting for another WWII CoD and I think Gearbox would have been the ideal developer.

I think personally that they didn't take on the challenge because CoD is such a big franchise, if the players didn't enjoy the game, it would ruin Gearbox's reputation because the CoD community is so great!

Here is a look at one of Gearbox's games "Brothers In Arms" in action.

Gearbox is amazing in my opinion. Borderlands is a great game. They also made some Tony Hawk games many a year ago. Those were pretty fun as well. The only problem in my eyes is that the game would feel too different.
