New affordable iPhone from Apple?

4.4
The Wall Street Journal has been very vague in their sources, citing "people briefed on the matter", but claims have surfaced. The Wall Street Journal reports that there is a lower-end iPhone that could possibly debut as early as late 2013. This is apparently an attempt from Apple to try and regain some of the lost market share in the smartphone sector.

Apple has looked in to this type of device for years, but has never pulled the trigger on the idea. While this concept is being discussed, it is still not said to be a for sure items, so it could still be cut like previous ideas.

The phone would be cheaper to the consumer, but look very similar to the more costly existing models. Apple could switch the current body, which is aluminum, and replace it with a less costly polycarbonate plastic body.

The IDC reports that iPhones account for 14.6 percent of the worldwide smartphone shipments in the third quarter for 2012, which is down from 23 percent in the first quarter.

Reports earlier this month have claimed that Apple is already testing the next major changes of its smartphone and iOS operating systems, the iPhone 6 and iOS 7.

SovietRussia Apple only probably has around 100$ in every phone the manufacture. If not way less. They then mark the price up %500-700 percent

It cost $167.50 per iPhone 5 to make them

They shouldnt make a lower end iphone, they should focus on lowering the price of the regular high end iphone, my mom got an iphone 5 for $649(no contract), I bought my Nexus 4 for $349 from the google play store (no contract full price) and android jellybean 4.2.1 is way better than ios 6. My nexus 4 at almost half the price can do everything the iphone does, but even more, i can hotspot tether using my data plan, pay at stores with google wallet (nfc)I can over clock my kernel and install custom roms and I can download whatever I want online. Compared to my mother's iphone 5 my Nexus 4 beats it in every way. Apple should focus on making the price lower, making the OS better and a more open source instead of making a low end iphone, the iphone 5 compared to high end android phones is out beat everytime, apple needs to step up their game because they are extremely behind. The only people who would buy the lower end iphone would be every single apple fan boy out there that can't realize iphones are not the best in the market anymore mostly all high end androids are better.
