IllumiRoom, Microsofts new proof-of-concept Xbox system shown off in Las Vegas a

The IllumiRoom, which was debuted at CES 2013 in Las Vegas, utilizes Kinect along with a projector, which amplifies the area surrounding the television screen with projected visualizations.

Microsoft states that IllumiRoom can, "change the appearance of the room, induce apparent motion, extend the field of view, and enable entirely new game experiences."

In September last year, this new game changing display technology was first revealed via a patent filed by Microsoft.

Within this patent, it states the system with utilize a 3D depth camera to measure the player's location by emitting infrared (IR) light patterns. The patent by Microsoft also states that the new technology will also conjoin with the rumored Kinect Glasses technology, which was mentioned in an Xbox 720 planning document that was leaked.

More information on this new concept technology from Microsoft will be unveiled at the April 27th CHI 2013 conference in Paris.

Below is a demonstration video that shows falling snow and even explosions being cast in the living room. Microsoft has stated that this video was recorded live and is not a result of any special effects being added in after production.

Looks pretty cool but I think it might distract me a little. Other than awesome.

I think it would be pretty cool to play in a room like that.

Why do people have to hate so much dude?
Why can you just not accept the fact that gaming is being brought to the next level and if they don't get through things like this, we will never be able to reach to things such as the simulator that everyone knows you dreamed of as a kid where you run around in a room and shoot at people in first person shooters.

It looks awful with so much furnishing in a room.

If they presented this concept in a darker room, with zero furniture around a wall-mounted television? It'd look great. Great concept, but I personally couldn't see myself using it. Similar to the prototype "PaperTab" tablet that is basically transparent. Cool ideas, but ineffective for another 5-10 years.

Sigmund That looks completely pointless, I get how it might be cool for children but really? I don't see myself ever wanting that unless they made it more practical.
