Rumor: Used Wii Us let you download previous user's games

4.5
We've known for a while that Nintendo Network IDs can only be associated with a single Wii U console, and now it appears that this restriction is providing unexpected benefits for used console buyers. Specifically, NeoGAF member DSN2K claims that second-hand console purchasers are able to redownload any games that were purchased via the previous owner. From a newly created account, DSN2K was able to download Nano Assault Neo and Trine 2 at no cost.

It makes sense, given that all user accounts on a single Wii U console are able to access previously purchased content. What makes less sense is that previous purchases seem to remain connected to the hardware even after the associated accounts are deleted. Regardless, you might be in for a pleasant surprise if you pick up a used Wii U.

Seregor
Pummpy1 This was a failed console. End of story.

Why? Because it doesn't have all your favorite high-def shooter games? Because it's not "hardcore," enough?

Whatever your "reason," it's probably irrelevant and senseless. Nintendo has always a more family oriented company, and they have always kept up and been able to supply what THEIR fans want. Just because you're not a fan of their systems, or this one in particular, doesn't mean it's a failure.

dude...did you read the article? thats pretty sad that they missed something like that. it could possibly make them lose millions of dollars how could anyone miss something like that? lol

phlegm That's awesome, even though the guy shouldn't of told everybody. Nintendo probably didn't know about this, and they probably won't like it either.

Yeah, I can see people now just aiming for pre-owned ones. If they do end up more, people might trick others to say it has this game, that game etc.

Now I wish I got a used Wii U, but it came out so recently that I doubt that there would be that much games. Maybe I'll end up selling the one I have now and try my luck to see if I can get a used one with loads of games :)
