The internet's role on the dynamic between developers and gamers

4.6
In recent years, much to the advent of the internet, gamers have been heading online to voice their opinions concerning their favorite games for better or worse. Some developers largely ignore their player base when creating and maintaining their game post launch to better stay true to their initial vision for the game. The developers who do listen and are open to constructive feedback are torn on how to accurately decipher the views being given about their game due to how social media and forums receive this information. In many cases when issues come up with a game the most vocal users make themselves known rather quickly to the developers and community alike by spamming ideas repeatedly or making a large stink over issues on fan sites. These certain gamers may or may not represent the majority opinion on how the game should be taken forward but more often than not this will sway the developers to make knee jerk reactions to the “loudest moron in the room”. A reaction like this usually ends up with the developer caving in to the minority opinion while shunning the actual majority. A game developer needs to weigh in social media and forum feedback along with their own usage metrics to accurately assess how the community really feels if they want to make a balanced product everyone can enjoy.

Has one of your favorite games been taken down a path you just don't like? Sound off in the comments below, we would love to hear your input on this issue that is sure to boggle both gamers and game developers for years to come.

Oasis What a load of bs!

'A knee jerk reaction'? do you even realise how many people each development team has just monitoring forums/social media/press for feedback?! Or is the knee jerk reaction the months spent working on and preparing updates and then pushing to make sure the customer not only knows it's coming but can get it for free.

Shocked to see this on the news page, considering it paints a false picture.

Tut tut tut.

Not being funny but you state the fact its free as being an advantage, so basically the fact that the game is so badly designed that they have to frequently update many faults at a time is justified and actually a positive.

Then on top of that, your whole comment was about the knee jerk decisions but you then continue to explain that they developers have employees who sepcifically monitor the feedback which this article has already said is given by people who have no idea.
nice work.

They need to get more information on what we want in it.

These game developers should make some way for them to hear what we want fixed in their games, so that we can enjoy them more. I Feel the best way to improve something is off of the feedback of the people who actually use it.

Game Developers should really listen to there community or fan base for say.If they did there game's would be better if they listen for once in there life's and not sit around and think about money all the time. That's why i don't play Call Of Duty,Halo,Battlefield because the game developers are just plan trash.Don't fix the game am not buying it and Patches yeah they should have fixed the game be for they release it and not rush it like everyone is doing now.
