Grand Theft Auto franchise reaches 125 million sales
With Grand Theft Auto: IV accounting for 25 million units alone.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick announced the achievement at this year's Credit Suisse Technology Conference.
Zelnick claims that part of the franchise's success is down to their irregular releases. Zelnick used the Call of Duty series and their annual release as a comparison, remarking that Black Ops 2 is performing poorer commercially than Modern Warfare 3 had done.
"That's never been the case with one of ours," said Zelnick. "Ours do better each time.”
”IP that is annualized eventually seems to hit the wall and we don't want our IP to hit the wall."

GTA does well because they take time between each game. Instead of a new game each year like cod they actually use a different better engine each new game, update features, and increase the gameplay value. Why do studios like rockstar win awards(game of the year) and the best cod can do is win best shooter, and thats sometimes. It's about quality, not quanity.

Wisest Amazing.
Right up there behind (surpassed COD) the all time best selling games: Tetris, Sims, Pokemon, Super Mario. For the genre it is, it's extremely impressive. Can't wait to see how much GTA:V increases lifetime sales for the developer, but it's pretty unfortunate their next release won't have a PC port and is limited to consoles.
I somehow feel like the sales are REALLY going to slack with that happening.
Although there probably isn't that much of a GTA community on PC, the support that the community has for these games are limit less.
